In addition to all the catch-up items you've listed, you also have to check the lower ball joint carriers. The older cars have aluminum ones, but Porsche upgraded them to steel. The aluminum ones tend to fail more often. Given the failure mode, a lot of the owners of the older cars changed them over already, but you should check. The older version is more a "figure 8" shape than the newer steel ones, and a magnet won't stick to it.

If you need new ones, its a pretty easy fix given that you've got some PB liquid wrench on hand and a breaker bar on hand. You'll need an alignment afterward, obviously.
Thank you for the compliment, and thanks for the reminder...I did do some homework on these before finalizing my decision to buy the car, but I'd forgotten that one. Since I'll be changing the shocks/struts/bushings anyway, I'll take care of that (if it hasn't been already) while I'm at it.

How about a pic of the engine?

Okay...flash isn't working, and it's a dreary day here, but here it is...
I've got some cheap cloth seat covers to cover the seats; there is some minor damage to the bolsters, so I want to minimize that until I can get it to the upholsterers. I've also got to figure out where the relays for the seat motors are (have to crack those manuals, I guess). Those footwells are DEEEEP, and I can barely operate the clutch comfortably.
By the way...when I was replacing the dry-rotted rubber straps that hold down the air cleaner (which was installed wrongside up) cover, one of the little buggers (one of the NEW ones, of course) managed to slither somewhere between the firewall and the engine, and it's like it vanished into thin bleeding air...anyone tell me where to look?? (And it ain't on the ground, either.)

As I said before, a lot of what's wrong with this car is a direct result of not having been driven. When I picked the car up, I was told the headlight motor was inop. Okay, fine. I turned on the headlights, opened the hood, and began manually cycling to the 'up' position, with my right hand. My left was resting across the linkage on the other side...and the motor suddenly returned from AWOL status. Scared the bejaysus out of me...my new shark just tried to BITE me??? After cycling it a few times, it now works flawlessly.

A quick Google of Det. Tony Bristol shows you are quite the crimestopper down in Nashville. If I ever get sauced up in my 928 and get pulled over in Nashville, I know who to call for bail.

Again, congrats on the new 928!! They are absolute dream cars, aren't they? I was a teenager in the 1980's and had my bedroom wall PAPERED with 928 photos from Motor Trend, etc. I remember building a model of a 928, very similar to your car when I was about 14. Never thought that I would wait 27 years to park one in the garage.

Some straps have a bit of metal inside so fishing with a magnet might help. Otherwise bite the bullet and pull the whole air box, eventually you will anyway, and it doesn't take long once you get the hang of it.

Looks like the dash has one of those plastic caps....when you can I would change that. Love the interior color.

Motor looks clean and the jump post cover is there so someone took care of it.

There is a single wire to power the seats that lies on the floor...it is easy to dislodge or corrode. The relays are in the passenger floor board foot well area.

Do any of your seat functions work?? If so then its a switch or track issue.

Vonov: Re the lost air box strap. You probably have one, but I find I use my "magnet on a stick" a lot; my ol bastid fingers drop stuff all the time and one the most satisfying things is to get that bolt back (and not spend 2 hours trying to find it). I also have one with a light on the end.

Welcome.

Absolutely beautiful car! Welcome to the curse, as no other car will ever be as good now. (except maybe your second, third, or fourth shark.)

The airbox strap could have fallen to the top of the bellhousing, or could be snagged on the firewall...

Congratulations!

Probably because they order the plaques in batches, and have the trophy shop engrave them on a case by case basis afterwards. In my case, my 'standard' retirement date would *normally* be 16 May 2012. Since the department would have to pay us for unused sick/vacation time, our rules permit us to use that time toward the total time served. I had a business opportunity I wished to pursue, so I invoked that rule, not incidentally saving the city some money. Hence the dates listed as shown on the plaque. If I were trying to "BS" anyone, I could have simply blurred the dates. I really hope this doesn't become an issue; I was trying to share my joy at having simultaneously achieved two of the things I most wanted in life, but I guess that is just not always possible.
