Whoa. Glad you are okay. Funny thing, as I was reading this, 5 fire trucks just rushed down the road behind me (I'm near the 60--where the tanker fire asploded the bridge recently).

+1 on helping insurance find 928intl for salvage.

One of the "odd tools" that showed up on the tool forum is a T shaped torque wrench apparently used by the military to tighten hose clamps to spec. Maybe something like that needs to be commonly practiced.

Or go to a swagged fitting, or a much higher grade hose?

Anyone have a list of part numbers to use?
Source for the hard lines?

I've got an '82 Euro CIS.

Rather be safe than sorry.

thx,

Mike

This is the line in Bill is talking about.

I don't know if it is avail from Porsche, but I am sure it would be expensive since the 5" rubber piece we replace is swagged on to it.

I've not had any fail using EFI clamps and Gates 30R9 hose. Doesn't mean it can't happen, just means I've not seen it.

Talking about the hose that goes to the far left of the picture. I've cut it off already.

I'm betting the line that burst was the U under the intake.

I am following this thread very closely as I am going to be replacing all the fuel lines in my car as well...

Just got word from the Insurance Adjuster, the car is totaled. He said that the body panels have a firewall that cannot be replaced. The electrical system is totally hosed (no pun intended) as well.

As for getting another 928 in the near future...I'm somewhat gun shy now. My daughter called and asked me today if was going to get another one and I said "I doubt it" and she said "what a relief...". Sounds like she is a bit traumatized.

Ather, we're really sorry to see this-- and very glad you and the kid are OK. And thanks for posting the pictures, not easy to look at but puts some perspective on old fuel lines (of any sort).

I believe this is the board of which you speak. They are not cheap, but they are exceptionally nice. Which reminds me, my GB U-hose replacement arrived from 928int'l last week. I'll be in the shop for a bit...

If you buy a 911 you can experience throwing it in a ditch instead!

I replaced all of mine except the one from the firewall, which is probably the one that experiences the most drama. I am going to inspect it carefully this weekend, interior is torn out anyway....

Those fuel lines look braided. I was told by another Rennlister that braided fuel lines are not the best lines to use and somewhat unsafe. Just sharing what I heard...

I have installed several sets of those and a few of his trans and oil line hoses, I strongly recommend them due to the quality of them.

They are works of art.

On a local 85, we found a U-hose that looked excellent.
Backside had a bite out of it. Literally, it had been chewed.

But they are aftermarket fuel hoses - as said before very pretty.
However if the end fitting is not tightened correctly you will have a fire.
No matter how good the product is the installer has to do his job correctly.

The fuel hose on the front right side as shown in Seans picture is NLA. It was available until a few months ago. The downside was they were made in 1991 and cost about $160.

I'm not sure about the rest of the 928 wrenches, but I'm going to continue to replace them as I have been. I have been talking up GB's sets though.

Like most things..THAT depends.

Id ignore that advice without the specifics...hes RIGHT, but only using the wrong type of braided lines.

Which applies to most things...wrong type, bad idea.
