I too have had bearings that the HF blind puller tool will not move...the outer edge of the bearing breaks before the puller can move the entire piece.

As a matter of fact, this is common, for me.

I must have been lucky with the mason anchor. I believe I used a pry bar to hold the bolt end. One or two sharp taps with a small hammer pulled the top one clean. I believe I used a dowel or something like that to pop the bottom one along with the mason anchor.

I've never had a problem with the flappy bearings in the manifold - using either masonry bolts per my earlier posts, or a slide hammer kit. I could just be lucky though.

The throttle body bearings however (same as the flappy ones) seem to be fitted with a tighter press fit - and I've had the outer lip of the bearing break off on a couple of them.. ugh.

I've found that heating the throttle body up to around 230 Celcius (450?) and then removing the bearing quickly while its still hot works reliably (wear thick leather gloves!).

Same here but I can't find it for $30 any more. The only bearing puller I see now is $59.

Here are pix. The masonry bolt (second one, first was killed pulling the bearing you see sitting loose). Second bearing is still on the bolt boss. VERY nice and effective and super worth the $$. Was a total of like 5 bux for the 2 bolts ... still have to look at the throttle body bearings too.

What I find hard to believe is that you own any tools from HF.

Just that one....and everytime I take it out of the box, I half expect it to break and send flying pieces of sharp Chinese metal into my body....just to teach me the lesson I already knew.

Someone, right on this thread, suggested that it worked. I made a special trip to go buy it. There isn't a "close" HF store, near me.

I feel like I need to take a shower after each time I use it....

But you know if it works, it works.

I just take them over to the welding table so I am all ready near what I know I am going to need before it is over.

I have only done about a half a dozen intakes, but none of them all came out.

Yeah, it amazes me that everyone on Rennlist has no problems and the bearings virtually jump out, while you and I..."the pros"...can't get hardly any of them out.

It is a mystery to me, as are some of the times that some folks do things in, but as you say, we find more to look at the older we get.

And I still miss things at times, just part of it I guess.

I've done 3 intake refreshes so 6 brg changes.....yes they dont fall out but with a puller, a little heat and persuasion they do come.

If you look at Dwaynes write up youll see how the dremel cuts a nice slot that releaves the pressure.

I am 0 for 4 bearings with the HF puller, but I am 4 for 4 with dremeling through the remaining shell. Giant PITA, that.

Rob as you can see using the masonry bolt got both races (sleeves) out

Note from the pic I inverted the masonry bolt's expansion sleeve. I also dremel scuffed the ID of the race as well as the OD of the tip of the sleeve, so as to create friction / grip.
