Default Bosch spark plug wire set

I just bought a Bosch Premium Spark Plug Wire Set from Amazon. They may not be as good as the Beru set but at 83$ for the set and lifetime warranty, I decided to give it a try ....

I dunno. I'm going on 4 or maybe 5 Bosch sets where the end that clicks on the spark plug was deformed so they never made a good connection. On top of that, upon further inspection where the wire crimps into the screw connector, the crimps were bad or not crimped at all. Only the friction between the wire insulation and the housing keeping it all together.

IMO not worth the risk. Minor ignition issues are rarely detected by the driver and not good for the engine.

We only suspected issues on one car due to the shape / waviness of the curve on the dyno, we knew something was wrong and started to investigate.

I've collected six sets of Buru ends (both 16V and 32V) to make my own wires when needed down the road.

EDIT - I should have mentioned the above sets of plug wires all had "Made In China" stamped on the spark plug end, not Buru.
I would have no problem buying Bosch plug wires if they come with Buru ends on them.

I tend to agree, ignition wires are very often a problem on the 928, and mostly undetected. Personally I think they are ALL poorly designed. We should have a better solution.

I trolled through a lot of threads on the topic when getting to replace a set- Beru, Bosch, Kingsborne, Magnecor...Nology. A few folks contemplated getting a spool of decent cable, the crimpers and terminal ends/boots to start making sets.. Would be nice to see it done, though I'm not sure on the cost per hour absent pressing a person's kids/family into service...

This tool would be a nice addition to the "rental" program through the 928 OC:

I know I'll be biting the bullet an buying one for myself in the near future. Four cars all due for plug wires and I have good ends, just need new wires.

Jeez, at that price, does it come with some big guy to crimp the wires for you?

Couldn't find a good close up of the Beru crimper jaws, but MSD makes crimpers with this profile

http://www.msdignition.com/Products/...t_PN_3505.aspx

any chance these might work? A LOT cheaper.

If we could get ahold of one or just measure the dimensions off the photo it would be possible the have a set of dies made for a lot less $ that slip into a vice and allow you to do the crimping using the vice. It would be a bit slower than the hand crimper, but quite possible I think.

I have that die set already and while they will work, it looks like the same crimp used on the Bosch wires that fall apart.

Interesting - sold a lot of Bosch sets over the years witth no known issues.
Currently the Beru sets have their own problem in that the cap on the distributor end does not fit the distributor cap. Had to return a number of sets and stopped buying them.

I have the wire, ends and the connectors and just have not pulled the trigger on the crimper. I had hoped to buy a used one somewhere but they are like rocking horse s**t to find.

Last year I got a set of Bosch Wires from Amazon. They came with the Beru ends on them and installed nicely, they were actually slightly longer than the stock set but worked the same. I used the old plastic clamps and was going to add insulation where needed, but they were longer enough to feed around hot areas and I never went back in to add the insulation.

Anybody know if the Kinsborne wire is the same as the Beru? It looks somewhat cheaper and has better colour selection. Does the crimper negate the procedure on the Beru Replacement kit as sold by Roger or is the cutting procedure just to remove the existing wires?
