Default 85 oil pan on GT no worky

I was going to use a spare 85 pan I have (early model) for a few reasons on my 91GT motor. But 2 things don't work.

1) pickup expects a deeper pan. Which must mean a GT pan is deeper (will have to compare as I've already packed the GT pan away in storage)
2) GT pickup sits off-center which doesn't allow the pan to center.

Has anyone seen this?

can you post pictures of both pans?
the pickup should be centered any chance it has gotten knocked around

Never heard of this. OB pan pick up is spring loaded so requires a little force to close the spring but thats all I know.

That's very strange- The oil pan on my '91 GT donor motor for the stroker was cast in '83 and had the oil drain pipe return hole in in (blocked off). Seemed to fit just fine. It was the one that was quite difficult to remove 'cause of the goo gluing it on.

any chance that you damaged the pickup while hitting the oil pan to remove it

The part no for the 85 is 928 101 201 10. In 89 it was changed to part no 928 101 208 01. So it looks like you have both.

85 pan measures exactly the same depth except that the anti-slosh vanes are slightly offset and slightly longer. So the GT pickup won't work with an 85 pan (too big and offset) unless modified but since I plan on using an ob pickup this may be no issue.

That looks very bent.

Not bent. (edit) The GT pickup is just about 11mm bigger. I think that's part of the problem. The GT pan accommodates for this, the 85 pan not. I thought the 2 pickups were angled differently but closer inspection reveals I was wrong.
