So while it has continued to rain here in Sunny San Diego and I have been unable to get some serious shots of the parts of the car I find amazing and interesting in the "wow, look, it seems newer" sense - I did take some shots in this morning's ambient lighting that interested me.

The belt gear. This was interesting to me because it has almost (well, none) no wear, and its a much harder green coating than what came with the 01 gears I bought in 2003 new. Strange and intriguing.



The second picture I wanted to share today may not be as interesting to some as it is to me. Its an intake pipe. The original color I suppose could have been silver, but I don't think it was. I think its this tan color, and its really cool that I will be able to reseal the engine, etc and just put these pieces back on and it will look like it came from the factory (a couple chips here and there I guess)

So I have been working more on the engine, and I took the cam covers off obviously. While there are many things to do, I am wondering what you all think about this and the other picture of the intake piece I posted. Should these be put back on (cleaned obviously) or powdercoated a proper stock color?

The issue becomes complex for me because I feel as though this car could be a concour or very important "original" car - and if I powdercoat these pieces to make them look more.... modern? that that could destroy some of that. I don't like this yellow color.

BUT... Should it be left the way it is? Even with some warts? What say you all?

Thats almost like a silver-gold. Very difficult to decipher.

Nope. All I could think of is an overrun clutch that was not installed on production engines.

My 2 cents is leave the valve covers original for now, and get it together, spend that time cleaning the engine bay, etc...

From personal experience, I know that a car is only original once. Add the chip or tensioner, as they can always be back dated. Get the car running well, make it run, get it on the road, and take it to some shows, cars and coffees, that sort of thing.

If it turns out that it is not your cup of tea, pass it on to someone who really, REALLY wants an original, low miles car. Nice score Brendan, and good of you to take the high road on this thread.

Its a slippery slope. Staying with original pressure and vacuum lines would be unwise. So you go to Porsche factory, but not all available depending on MY. If the car will see use at all, we are at the time when it will have to be deviating from factory original. By how much is a matter of degree and preference.
