928 Out for an Autumn Drive
A couple of weeks after Sharktoberfest '11, my wife and I took a day trip up to Mammoth Mountain here in CA to officially christen Oregon (1987) as my new Daily Driver (after much mechanical refreshing). The fall colors were great and we took a few pictures along the way - just sharing. Feel free to post an Autumn outing in your 928...
The weather couldn't be better. The roads were clear and we drove up past the ski lodge to Minaret Vista (elvation 9,265 Feet)
A picture of me enjoying my favorite seat in the 928 - the Driver's Seat!
Caught some interesting cloud reflections on the 928. As we were enjoying the view of the Mammoth Mountains, more visitors were arriving and Oregon was attracting some looks.
One Gentleman was taking pictures of the mountains and he was talking on his cell phone. After he finished talking on the cell, he came over and introduced himself as a corvette guy. He said he always loved the 928 and wish he had one. Said the 928 is his Father's favorite car of all time. He said he snapped a picture on his cell and had to send it to his father. Said he was talking to this father on the cell when we drove up and told his father, "you won't believe what just pulled up - I'm sending you a picture right now." We talked for some time and he was very complimentary on Oregon.
My wife and travelling partner and fellow 928 fan - enjoying the fall colors!
There were plenty of places to take pictures with the fall colors.
The drive up to Mammoth takes a little less than 3 hours from Ridgecrest but I never get tired of driving a 928. And it's kind of a kick to see the looks the 928 gets whenever out and about. Now that California has been retired as my Daily Driver, I will miss all the adventures I've had in California - including 2 cross-country trips. But I have to say, the non-sunroof S4 is pretty hard to beat for headroom comfort.
Feel free to post some autumn pics of your 928 ride. THANKS for reading!

Great pics and thanks for sharing. I had to take a double take as I thought your car looked like a GTS. Are you like 6'5"? I bet you needed all the headroom you could get.

Hello Steve: Actual height is 6' 6" so I do LOVE the non-sunroof 928s!
Hello Kevin: Love that picture of us with the Holbert - brings back great memories of the trip across the country and the many tremendous 928 community members along the way. That was a BLAST!!

Dwayne & Michael, Those C III wheels really make the 928 look like a new car! Both are striking cars!

SanDiego928 and Michael, Thanks for the great fall pics - both look like beautiful 928s
SpeedGT3, The directions to Minaret Vista is pretty easy - we stumbled on it by accident. From US395 take the state route 203 exit into Mammoth (it's also called Main Street through Mammoth). Turn right on Minaret Rd. (you will still be on Rt 203. Follow this road all the way to the Mammoth Ski Lodge and Ski Lift Area. Continue on past the lodge. Shortly, you will come to "Y" in the road. Take the right branch. The Road is called Lookout Point Rd/San Joaquin Jeep Rd. There will be signs that state Minaret Vista is just ahead. Shortly ahead you will arrive at the look out point where we took the pictures just last month. The roads up past the ski lodge are closed in the winter due to the snow. We were up there in June and there was still about 8-10' of snow on the road - in fact, we couldn't even see the road! My guess is the road to Minaret Vista Lookout is only accessible July-October give or take a few weeks on either side. Hope this helps - if not, let me know.
