Congrats Otto! Sounds like a car to be brought back to its original state & kept for a long time. You have tapped in to the right place for assistance as there are many on here that know 928s better than any others.

It appears your car was repainted when the Gembella conversion was done.
Your car was originally Silver Metallic #936.
As an aside...
In 1976, Porsche offered Continental Orange #107 as a standard color.
I have record of at least one early 928 painted that color, but it is not #0039.
Otto's was silver.

Wilkommen! I hope you restore it to the original exterior. Otherwise all the talk about serial numbers is kind of pointless. I might feel differently once we see the fotos. Chuck Z (928registry.org) will have to add a new category as he starts with '78. You should register it on that site.

Hi at all...
last 20 weeks I was very busy and I could not spend any time in my 0039.
I took delivery in january, and since this great moment she sleeps in my garage.
Now I had some minutes and I looked a little closer.
As I had already told, someone in the past has "re-designed" the front and rear on S4
and fitted some newer electrical "Berber"-seats and so on.
Fortunately, I got a whole truck full of original staff from this car.
So I got the original rear-bumper (without fog-light), the original front-bumper (with
2-hole valves as the 1977er 911 ?!?) all front and rear lights and the original "Pasha" interior.
Everything in very good condition. Parts are all stamped between february-march 1977.
Some funny details:
Car has an original ! sunroof. Date on the motor ist stamped "2. März 1977"
The glove-box lid has a lock from 924 (such as the VW Beetle 1303)
The original phone-dial wheels I got from the seller has 15"
The first exterior-color is original "continental-orange".
More details:
VIN: 9288100039
Motor-Type: M28/02
Motor-Nr. :8189022
Transmission-Type: A22/01
Transmission-Nr.: 1680005
Interior: brown pasha
Exterior: continental-orange
Date of first registration: 04.06.1977

Transmission # 1680005 makes it a very early auto. First auto was VIN# 9288100035
You have the oldest known auto 928 in the world.
Engine #8189022 should read 8180022? Seems to make sense to me if the auto and manual engine#'s ran in parallel.
My records show your car was silver from the factory, which appears not to be true (based on your pics).
Strangely, the records show the car directly following yours, VIN# 9288100040 was Continental Orange B2, from the factory. Direct delivery with country code 99. Your car reads country code 100.
Official production of '78 MY 928 began in May 1977 for RoW cars, and your car was registered in April. I find this interesting because your car was registered in April (04.06.1977).
It's possible that more than the 12 pre-production press cars were built before "official" production started.
The front fenders are not original. A car this early would not have sidemarker flashers behind the wheels.

Thanks a lot, Jim!
The engine-number is 8189022. It's matching, because austrian titles fortunately shows
not only the VIN, but also the engine-number. And it's the same number as on the block.
Somewhere in this forum I found that auto-engine-numbers have this "9" instead of a "0" after the "818". So it seems to be authentic?
I took off the sidemarkers. The holes are not "stamped in". They looks to be cut out by hand. The original color of the wings under the dark-green is also continental-orange. So I think they are original and the sidemarkers were added when changing to S4-design.
What means "directly delivered with country code 99 (or 100)" ?
Date of first registration is not april, 6th! It's june, 4th! Because in germany and austria
we write "day.month.year" not "month.day.year" ;-)

Ah! I didn't think about that, month/day.
That makes sense about the engine# for auto.
Direct delivery means the car was special ordered by a customer. Must have been someone special, because I'm sure the German dealerships were waiting in line.
Your's was destination Austria (99), all others were Germany (100) or factory.

@Jim:
Aah, 100 for germany (or factory) makes sense. Because this austrian title is not
the regular document for serial cars, it's a "Einzelgenehmigung" for special cars.
The car came from germany to austria not over "Porsche Austria" as a normal import.
Because the first owner was Ferry himself, I think they took the car directly from the
factory to "Zell am See", the vacation-home of the Porsche-family near Gmünd in austria.
@Ron: I think I should have a straight talk with your wife. Because I know a seasonable
gift for your next birthday :-)
