Number 00039 Prototype ?
Hi,
my name is Otto and I'm from germany.
Unfortunately I dont speak english as well,
so I thank you for your patience.
I'm 51 years old, and exactly 30 years ago,
as a student, I bought my first 928S. The car
was only some month old, but very cheap
because of a crash. So I did my job for some
weeks in daddys garage...
After this I got another 928S and some years
later my last 928, a 928GT.
Now, after 20 years without 8 cylinders
I'm very happy beeing the new owner of the
9288100039,
which I found last week in austria
I bought the car only having some pictures,
but I got the austrian title. The date of first
registration in austria!! was in may 1977
and the first registered driver was Ferry
Porsche himself in "Zell am See".
The car will be delivered next week.
(some sleepless days...)
So I have some questions:
Which parts are different from later models?
Is it correct, that this 928 may be one of the
prototypes?
The color is orange, but I did not find any
orange color code for this year?
The interior is "Berber", but this cannot be original,
because I think "Berber" came 3 years later?
Thanks a lot for your answers
and kind regards
Otto

Otto,
You could very well have a historic car, certainly its one of the oldest known 928 cars built!
We think first 10 Vin #'s were reserved, not used, like was true on 914 car.
So, car #6 has Vin# of 16, and so-on.
Below is some history. We also found #1 ( VIN #11 ) during the late summer here in USA.

Please post some pictures and as much information as you can!
Good news --- 00039 is in the good hands of a 928 guy!!!!

This is a fantastic find! Congratuations!
Your car is right around the 17th production 928. It makes perfect sense it was registered in May 1977, same month production began.
Very interesting having been registered to Ferry Porsche. This was quite possibly an executive car.
I believe #0029 also has Ferry Porsche provenance.
We would be very interested in any infomation you can share. Hope to see picture as well.
Please look through the #6 thread because you will find there much historic infomation. You may also see many similarities of early production 928's.

Hallo Otto:
Das ist ja ein unglaublicher Fund! Bitte stelle ein paar Fotos für uns ein - umso mehr Details wir sehen können, desto mehr können wir dazu sagen.
Wo in Deutschland bist Du?

This is outrageously cool..........people from around the world discussing the 928. I drove mine all day today doing errands that I don't like doing but in a 928, I couldn't wait to open the garage and
Congrats on your purchase.
Need pictures please.......
