Great find!

Hi at all,
thanks a lot for your replies!
So I'll have something to read for next days :-)
I'm glad to be here because of all the shark-specialists inside here.
I'll get the car end of next week by a car shipping service and then I'll
post some photos. In this time, I only have some Polaroids, but no scanner.
In the 90's someone "updated" the car by mounting S4 bumpers, BBS wheels
and a "Gemballa" front and rear spoiler.
So I think this is the reason for being undiscovered.
What did it mean "perhaps the car is the 17th ever built"?
Not #39 or #29?

I hope you are able to understand my bad english...
(my sister is an english teacher at highschool in city of Dortmund.
Oh ****, better she will never read this thread...)

Kind regards
Otto

Usually serial numbers don't start at number 1. Usually 10 or 100 or 1000 or 200 or something.

#0000 - 0010 were not used (confirmed by Porsche)

#0011 - 0022 were pre-production (not built on the production floor)

If #0023 was first production 928, then #0039 would be the 17th built.

EDIT: It's probably even a lower production build number. There was at least one more 928 built off the production floor - the Geneva Show car(s).

It would be the 17th PRODUCTION car built! It would be the 28th 928 built...but as noted the first 11 were PRE-PRODUCITON cars... Those are the ones that Jim has... Jim is the OB WON KENOBI of OB's! LOL!

Oh, yea, I am number challenged! LOL!

I used to call you the OB Yoda, but I like OB WAN better...just a better fit, though you are superior to Yoda when it comes to the early OB's!

You are a stud Jim!

Welcome Otto. Find the body color code. "Indischrot" (I think) looks like orange. However, maybe paint occurred when the S4 and Gemballa body parts were added?

^^^That's cool!

It would be even better, if they could still make them with the old font style - your plate uses the font from the new Euro plates.

Jim, surely we know somebody who makes license plates for a living that could do an authentic custom one.

All examples shown use the new tamper proof font style. But you can always ask, if they can still do the old pre-EU-plates style.

Nicole,
I've checked on this and have not found any source that does the old font. I can't say my search was absolutely exhaustive, but the best I could do at the time. If someone finds a company, please let me know.

Back to #0039.....

Otto,
Have you considered what you would like to do with this car?
