I used Mintex pads on my '82 (S brakes) & had no complaints.

When I installed S4 brakes, I went with Ferodo pads - loved them!

Recently replaced the worn out front Ferodos with PBR ceramic pads . Seems like I've lost about half of my front braking force - Poor initial "bite" & it sometimes feels like I'm going to drift right on through the intersection before I can get stopped. Mako928 has observed that, on the autocross course, I am now consistently locking the rear brakes (Ferodo pads) before the fronts (PBR pads).

Going back to Ferodos as soon as I can. If anyone wants a set of lightly used S4 front PBR's let me know.

Don't have Mintex on the 928, but I've got them on my 5 series BMW. Brake squeal when hot at low speeds - very annoying. Lots of dust - LOTS! Gotta clean my M5 wheels every stinkin week!

I'm using PBR pads. I agree with jheis that they do have poor initial bite. With that said, they work fine on the street and don't produce a lot of dust or noise (if you've got the shims installed.) They also seem to last quite a while. I've got about 30K miles on the current set and they've got a lot of miles left.

I tried mintex pads when I first put on my S4 brakes. Their initial bite was great, and they felt very reassuring. They were filthy pads however. I replaced them with the PBR pads when my master cylinder went bad and I wore one of the rears down to the metal backing plate. I also noticed that the other pads on the car were heavily worn despite only having about 15K miles on them. I tried a new set in the spring when I bought new rotors. I cleaned the hell out of my rims while I was at it. A 100 mile drive left a noticeable amount of dust on the wheels, and after 300 miles they were already looking bad. I took the pads out, pulled the old PBR pads off the shelf and put them back in. I also noticed that mintex pads seem to do a number on the rotors.

PBR pads IMO are the best option for price, longevity, dust, noise, and performance. They don't excel in any one area, but they're good in all.

About the same as the brand I use, except its whatever the pads are that come with some lot of other parts I've bought. One set of shocks when I drove over to pick them up the guy had a whole box of other stuff including brakes with pads and a set of new pads he wanted me to take as well.

Anybody tried Performance Friction? They posted here in the last year, but I couldn't find a mainstream dealer to try them. Later had a discussion with someone who knows the company some. Great products but kind of hit and miss marketing.

I have nerver had to do a break job on the 928 yet! I know I will be doing one this year, so I hope more people will chime in on this thread.

I wish I knew what mine were because it would get the same.

The drilled rotors produce a little more dust but I might have to clean them once every 700 miles.

Is there a way to tell, I never really looked that close

I'm a big fan of the textars for street and occasional track use on a street car. Priced well, long lasting, and quiet. They do have a kind of organic feel, kind of hard to explain, but if you like the "put your head through the windshield just by looking at the brake pedal" action that you get with Hawk Blues, these are not for you.

Funnily enough, I looked through Mark's poll for Ferodo.

Between the three S4's I've owned I've tried Mintex, PBR Deluxe, Bendix Semi-metallic, and Ferodo pads.

I currently have PBR Deluxe on my 89 - they take a little more pressure to bite, and they may have required a fair bit of bedding in, although that could also have just been new rotors levelling off too (lots of smoke and 90-0's on a quiet street).

My next set of pads will be Ferodo's again - definitely my favourite for feel and stopping power on the street out of the ones I've tried, although they're dustier than the PBR's (but not even close to as dusty as the Mintex).

For the track Car: Ferodo DS3000. Running S4 setup. FCP560R Front & FCP451R Rear. The Ferodo website has an incorrect part number on the rears. Probably a bit noisy for a normal road car, great on the track.

Have had Pagids in the past, great pad but squeeked like mad, pretty dusty. Used Mintex, decent with lots of dust. Now I'm a Hawk fanboi.

For those with poor intial bite w/PBRs are you running same rotors as w/previous pads?

I have new cast in hole rotors stock size with a 33 bias valve, stock calipers......stops way harder than it goes.
