Default 79 fuel distributor Fix (FYI)

I had been having a problem fouling number six cylinder. Car ran great when you cleaned plug or replaced, then after awile it would foul again and start missing.

being new to the 928 i started checking the WUR. I had rebuilt my fuel dis when i got the car and figured it couldn't be the problem! (wrong i was) after pulling my hair out adjusting pressures and taking the WUR apart about 15 times and even drilling and taping it so i could adjust it i came to the conclusion it can't be the problem.

so thats when i started reading posts. Dennis wilson mentioned in a post about possiable o ring in the fuel dist leaking system press. into the metering slot! well that turned out to be my problem. took me 3 rounds of pulling the distributor apart but i finally fixed it.

Just wanted to share this and maybe save someone the headache i when thourgh.

Steve

What made it leak? Faulty seating, tear...

Thanks for the info. Any pics?

there are 8 orings, one around each metering slit, when i installed them one of them must have rolled up on the metering slit and pinched it.

Thank you very much for the visual. So, did you use an lubricant when installing the orings and metering part?

How did you figure out it was leaking? Did you have fuel coming out an injector port with the metering plate closed?

Yes i used mavel oil on the o rings.

i found the last time i was putting it to together that if you slowly work it back and forth you will see the orings just slide down in to the chamber nicely with out pinching any.

Great picture.

Did you take more? Do you have any links you used for guidance in the dis- & re-assembly?

Never thought of a 928 as farm vehicle, particularly, but it does have a great cargo capacity. ;-) ;-)

Good post. I must remember to take photos when I strip my replacement CIS distributor down - I've just bought an alloy Mercedes unit off ebay to serve as my rebuild.
