Default water pump

I have seen the old pump but how can I be sure that I was bought from you guys ? I don't want to send you something that is not maybe even from 928 motorsports . Should it say anything special on it ?

if your going to send the old pump back and get a new one.
I would make sure it is a new pump and its made by Laso and the new Laso pump has a new shaft collar to prevent the impeller from coming off,
if this isnt what you getting, I know Roger has them.
Also you should replace the oil pump pulley as its clear from the picture it is an aluminum version and the coating has begun to wear off,
if you do replace the oil pump gear then also remove the 1 MM spacer thats behind it when you fit a new steel gear

Also I see from your pictures that you have the fuel rail gauge installed. This gauge can fail and cause an engine fire. Remove the gauge and only use it for diagnostics.
Do what Roger suggested and establish what clearance you have between the impeller and block to see if anything additional needs to be done to the block, you might have just dodged a bullet.

Looking at your first picture there is a home made copper T with a short piece of red hose and clamps. This is not a standard Porsche part. Offhand I do not know what it is serving, maybe others will chime in, but it should be replaced with the original intended part.
Just flush the coolant system, radiator and heater core thoroughly. Make sure the engine block drain plugs are removed and the block thoroughly flushed. You should be OK.

I thought I read in an earlier post that the PO had replaced the timing belt and water pump with parts from us. Perhaps I remember incorrectly.

It's OK - just call Gretchen at 920-485-0928 and give her the previous owner's name. She can look it up in an instant and tell you what we sold him. If that water pump is from us, I want to replace it with one of our new ones where we pin the impeller to the shaft.

Carl any chance you might provide a photo of your pump?
any details about it?
Is it new or rebuilt?
Who makes it?
I have installed 5 new Lasos and so far no comebacks,
2 of them in my own cars and they all had the new shaft collar,
just curious what your selling

Laso is not the only option out there and not all rebuilt pumps are junk. Most are but all our pumps are remanufactured with either a Porsche plastic impellor or a pinned metal impeller, been that way since we started these. many talked about it but we were the first to do it.We also designed a coupling feature to save the valves from crashing in the event of a water pump seizing, which is called the Engine Guardian Drive System.

Yes, Ed's pump is the only way to go for a complete peace of mind system.
If for a reason or an another the pump seized, the belt won't brake and cause major damage.

Thanks Ed.

This car has The shark vent installed , and also had couple copper pipes used for that with red hose, would that be part of the shark vent too?

As advertised: http://www.928motorsports.com/parts/water_pump.php
These quality water pumps are made by Lasso (The OEM supplier to Porsche) and are NEW, not rebuilt. No core required! Replace your water pump when you service your timing belt.
We do also offer rebuilt water pumps for the cash-strapped 928 owner:

I stole this picture from Ed in post number 68 above.

Note the small set screw in the impeller that locks it to the shaft positively.

This is the same way we pin every waterpump that leaves here, new or rebuilt.

When did Laso become an OEM supplier to Porsche?

It is my understanding that back in 1977-and up they were the OEM supplier of these pumps.

Is that incorrect?

Carl thats a lot of cash for a new pump 509.00
Roger sells the new Laso for under 300.00 that said,
your picture represents the old style of Laso,
The new improved version also has a small locking collar that is added to lock the impeller hub the the pump shaft.

I cant tell you how to run your business,
but selling rebuilt pumps isnt really in the best interest of the customer,
as they have poor track record for reliability due to the bearing housing slipping in its bore,
thus causing the belt to lose tension... just saying!

I dont think that there are any others selling rebuilt 928 pumps due to this fact
