Definately over the top, but just to be clear, no stalking or invasion of privacy intended here, just a fun challenge. I saw it as a good opportunity for some father/son time yesterday, and when they hit 13, there are fewer and fewer activities they want to do with dad.

If we did find the car, I'd definately approach the owner, but in a polite and respectful manner. If the response was not positive, then it's over. I don't think we know if he's wanting to be found or wanting to participate in the 928 community, we just know he hasn't yet, like 100's of other 928 owners. There's always the chance he's open to sharing information and pics of the car with us, if not, that's ok too.

Good shot! I was real happy when I found that and able to see the extent of the damage around the engine (not much) before I sent the cash. Really hard to see what happened to it, or why it was totalled but they said it brushed up against a sign or something like that. Seems like there's damage on both sides.

Right on my brotha! The owner doesn't want to be known and he will never seek out help from this forum or any other. He has "people" that will handle any issues with this GTS. In fact, if he gets wind of this thread he and the car will prolly never be seen again...... I've been down this road a bunch of years ago when privacy laws weren't so pervasive with this car and have been asked to respect the owner's privacy. This opened my eyes to the fact that not everyone with a 928 is like us and wants all of the enthusiasts here to see and learn more about their cars.

Pictures of the car when it's out in the wild are one thing, to track the man down on this forum seems a bit stalker to me (perhaps the owner thought this about me when I called him....).

I was waiting for you to chime in Chuck. I think we had a similar conversation a couple of years ago about this same car.

Let's assume we all have common sense about privacy issues.

Agree that this guy has a very respected mechanic in Sealy and won't be coming here for water pump advice.

Appreciate you sharing your past experience with the owner, we'll all have to keep that in mind. Personally, I see nothing wrong with asking around and looking for a car out in public. Knowing a few more pieces of the puzzle makes the mystery more fun. Knowing everything would probably be a let down :-)

Agreed. If the car/owner are out in the wild in this GTS, they give up their right to a certain level of privacy and I hope the next person that sees this car out and about snaps away and shares them with us here. Maybe that individual will have more luck in terms of a conversation with the owner than I did......

IMO, there are two GTSs out there where discussions such as this will serve to raise the value of the car if/when they ever come up for sale. Illusive or elusive as they both may be. This one and the pearlglanz green last US GTS. Although I suspect this yellow GTS will need quite a bit of attention (cosmetically speaking) mainly due to use if/when it comes up for sale. Should this one need a great deal of tlc, it might well be the first 928 worthy of a full restoration?

Curious as to why you might think this. Just because its a special order color? What else is unique about this car that makes it more restorable than other GTS's?

One of a kind build. It's unique b/c of color (color was available as standard option in 95) it's the only speed yellow GTS ever built for NA market, wheels painted to match, wood interior (Porsche missed the wood wheel so it was added after delivery), yellow accents on seats. The MSRP on this car was over $100k if memory serves.

Definitely a real "1 of 1" kind of car, I would hope that it wouldn't need too much cosmetic attention since it only had 22K miles on it in 2004. Too bad it's an automatic...

+1. I'm guessing the car is now well into the 30k+ mileage range and will most likely have normal wear on the interior leather and the paint associated with those miles..... I have no reason to suspect that it will need anything at all; just going by what I've seen on other GTSs with 30k+ miles. It could be maintained in the same condition my car is and need absolutely nothing; but I doubt it?

Yea, when I saw it back in 2001 or 2002 I guess it still had like 12k miles on it... It was VERY DIRTY! The "son" was borrowing it from his dad while his 911 was in the shop. Not a friendly guy...didn't hang around long (it was a really nice Concours event!) and didn't have anything good to say to the fairly large 928 contingent that was present. We were all very interested in the car and I was extremely pissed when I found out later (I was running the event and had little time to spend w/ the car) that none of the other 928 guys (or 911 guys) got a pic of this car!

I don't think this owner is worried about the "collectibility" of this GTS...despite its rarity (even compared to some of the other cars he is reputed to have in his garage). It also seems like this car is getting spotted more and more often as well, so I think 30k miles might be on the low side even! Sounds like he does care for his cars, so lets hope at some point it ends up in a collection or with an owner who is not afraid to share it with others and talk about it!
