No need for footwork, the 2nd post in this thread is from Danny who names the mechanic that works on the car. I located the shop's web page and sent an email explaining the situation and asking if he could put me in touch with the owner somehow, so that we could learn more about the car and maybe get some pics. This was a few weeks ago, I have not heard back. Danny also said he might be able to contact son of the owner.

Next time I'm out west of Houston, I may stop by the shop and chat with the mechanic about the car.

It may just remain a legend though, maybe more fun that way.

The yellow GTS was just spotted 5 minutes ago in West Houston (Barker Cypress, south of I10) by a non-RL'er's son. The son wasn't able to get a shot of it, and couldn't follow since he was on his way to college classes. At least it's being driven regularly!

My girlfriend spotted a yellow one yesterday being put into a storage unit in Biloxi Mississippi along with about 8 other collectable cars.

^^^^
Might have been a yellow 928, but it would not have been a GTS! There is only ONE in the US. Well, only one FACTORY Speed Yellow US GTS. There are several in Germany...

So my son and I had some time this afternoon, and we took the 89 out to the area of today's spotting to look around. I grew up in that part of west Houston, so I know it well. Based on the road it was spotted on today, and the direction of travel, I had in mind a row of very large houses in the area and thought it would be fun to just go for a drive, look around and maybe get lucky. We drove around the area and didn't see the car, but stopped at a auto shop near by. The owner had seen the car many times at the convenience store next door and said he also owns a lime green Lamborghini. He said suggested he probably lives in a nice gated community down the road where there many exotics including a Bugati Veyron. Appearantly our mystery owner also resembles Richard Simmons! He took my number and promised to try to get a picture next time he saw it.

We tooled around the gated community (security not so tight), and saw some nice cars, but again no luck, so the mystery continues, but we know a bit more now. Maybe at Cars n Coffee we'll see him hanging with the Lambo crowd some day.

Good work Don! If your current job does not work out then you might have a future as a PI!

Don - Have you tried "virtual cruising" the neighborhoods in Google Streetview? Might get lucky and find it sitting out when the camera car went by.

Jarrod,

That was the first thing I did when I got back home. Didn't see anything, but you're welcome to take a look. The subdivision with the lakes is the one that the shop owner suspected, but he wasn't sure. Do you have the Google Earth plugin for IE yet? Very cool...

Google Maps is great, I was able to see my 89 in the previous owners driveway in San Antonio and could even see the wet concrete from a recent wash. Also saw the 88 that it's new engine came out of, sitting in front of the junk yard in NH using Street View.

Actually, since it's gated, no Street View, but decent Satellite imagery.

To see the wrecked 88 that I got my engine, seats and steering wheel from, enter "32 Dustin Tavern Road, Weare, NH" and switch to StreetView.

Thanks Don. I have Google Earth and reviewed the two most recent hi-res images taken 1/2010 and 3/2011. The former had the only yellow vehicles I observed, neither of which were the elusive GTS. The hunt continues...

There are some seriously talented roofers in Houston. I gotta say, are we maybe a LITTLE obsessed with this GTS? The owner clearly doesn't want to play with others, or he would have been 'found' by now. Since all 928 maintenance eventually becomes a team sport, he'll have to seek service help, or he'll tire of it and then we'll see who's really serious about obtaining this car...

This thread is over the top. I love it!!!!
Eventually, the car will eventually need maintenance.
Wait him out.
We need live satellite views.
