P.S. I would actually be very happy to have the Carillo engineering report on the rod offset analysis, it that is not too much of an inconvenience. Thanks for the offer. Mail it to me at the address in the avatar, Jerry Feather

Just amazing that you can insult a person and say I think we could be friends in the same post.

I'm sorry that is not too likely.

I am not going to post my analysis about the silly crank that I have for $1200 as it relates to what you have said about it or around it, because I really don't want to do any damage to your professional reputation or to you personally. I don't think you realize how well I might be able to fit everything you have said here and before, in 2007, about this crank issue, into what the chief judge recently said was the best closing argument that he has ever heard.

Let's bury the hatchet.

How short are you thinking?

I'm doing 78.9 (Stock 5.0).

Shorter than stock.

The plan(s) for that motor hasn't gone much further then that, this talk about having Moldex cranks made got me thinking.
I was just curious about different options before I got myself too excited.

I can promise you this much, I know Greg Brown is a big enough person to forget things that have been said in this thread if you really want to be friends with him Jerry.

Because you have insulted friends of mine more than once, you have called a personal friend of mine a liar, more than once.
Why should I not say what is on my mind?

I'd actually love to hear your analysis. I enjoy the civil exchange of ideas and data. Keep your analysis factual and not personal and even "Hacker" will be happy.

Although all I do, these days, is work on 928 engines and transmissions and I have a perfect record on making 928 stroker engines run and last...I'm always willing to listen to new ideas. Unfortunately, I've seen the "Scat Crank" softness issues, with my own eyes...and although you don't believe me...that doesn't change what I've seen.

Post away.

Yes, and on the other hand I don't have very many friends who are perfect. I accept them as they are or not at all and that could be the case with Greg Brown. I didn't say I wanted to be his friend, but only if we were closer we might be. Let it go, Blow job 87!!

It's really pretty easy to change the stroke, once the basic engineering is done. The shorter the stroke, the more CPO (crank pin overlap) there is, so shorter just keeps getting stiffer.

Wait until you see the "new" 78.9mm crank and see the "new" ideas. By then, if you have firmed up what stroke you want, I can easily have it made.

Connecting rods are easy.

Seems to me Scat is a bit like any other Chinese import, like the tools at Harbor Freight, some are junk, some are ok, and some are just as good as any, but all of them need an extra amount of inspection, rejecting all but the good ones. I talked to some of the Mustang guys, and within that community Scat is the "premium Chinese" brand used by the better cheap engine builders. Going through one of the experienced guys to handle the inspection I would have no problem putting a kit into a Mustang. A $1200 rotating assembly in a $500 block with a generally very successful track record isn't much of a risk.

OTOH I didn't find any willing to go into too many details of how they inspect cranks, or even anything special they might do in ordering them. Some have mentioned a few things like ways to identify which factory in China made them, and that some factories are good, and some bad. Given the small number of potential 928 buyers, I suspect its moot, the numbers may be too small for them to learn how to make acceptable parts.

What might be possible, and might be worthwhile, would be to talk one of the engine builders with a lot of experience with Chinese cranks into managing some kind of group buy of cranks and rods that would match up with used Porsche pistons.

OTOH as has been mentioned, we don't have an endless supply of blocks to test with. I think we have an even smaller supply of owners with more than $10k to budget for an engine build, so it still might be worth trying.

Easy Greg....

Let's concentrate on the exchange of information.

We can always shoot him in the knees later.

Some day, Greg, I am going to tell you about my analysis, but I assure you that you do not want me to do it on this forum. However, if you want.....no, not even then; unless you don't want to bury the hatchet and let this pass. Now, I suspect it is an issue about you have so many posts and your peanut galary is smelling defeat against me, so maybe it is time to press the issue and see just what I have to tell about this matter. What is your call? Open or private?
