I never noticed the "nickel-silicon coated bores" before. Interesting.
Desert Attack 500
Bore: 4.205”
Stroke: 4.500”
Displacement: 50ci/8.2L
Horsepower: 812
Torque: 775
Redline: 6200RPM
CR: 14.0:1
Block: Dart/Katech billet aluminum with nickel-silicon coated bores, billet main caps
Crankshaft: 4340 forged steel with ATI damper
Connecting rods: Forged H-beam steel
Pistons: 2618 forged aluminum with DLC-coated pins
Camshaft: Desert Attack 500-spec solid roller, Jesel lifters and rockers
Cylinder heads: CNC-ported All-Pro with bronze valve guides, ARP studs
Valves: LS7 titanium intake, hollow sodium-filled exhaust
Induction: Kinsler vertical with 8 individual throttle bodies
Oiling system: Dailey 5 stage
Price: $55,000
I'm not trying to boast about Chevy motors, just pointing out a quality LS stroker that will last like one of Greg's engines is far from cheap. Katech is about the best out there.

Three Wheelin'
The Katech guys like to charge a lot for their work, which a lot of people do themselves or from other vendors for less money. But, nobody races them as hard, so that's what you're paying for I suppose.

I'd never even HEARD about that Desert attack engine. More than eight liters out of that thing is ridiculous.

Greg.....all sounds very good and Rob has asked some great questions.
We should also add when and $$$?
BTW what hp should we expect from the 4 'new models'?
This reminds me of comments made on Nicoles thread re. a different car........if you could have more performance and a few electonic upgrades to your 928 then why switch???

If you're doing all that juicy stuff you might as well start with an interesting engine and leave the LSwhatevers to the car guys who don't like engines. But that's just my opinion.
Thank you for this opportunity for engaging chevy engine discourse Hacker!
That is very interesting about the bores. I've used Dart aluminum blocks and they had cast iron inserts.

LS376/480's are dynoing at 505-510 crank hp. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/NAL-19244549 $ 7964. My buddy just dropped a custom built Shafiroff 540 cu in, (dyno at 635 crank hp) motor in his 67 Camaro (street) to the tune of $ 10,500. I rode in this car and it's a rocket. 77Tony

Crankshaft: 4340 forged steel with ATI damper
Connecting rods: Forged H-beam steel
Pistons: 2618 forged aluminum with DLC-coated pins
Camshaft: GM Stage 3
Cylinder heads: CNC-ported LS7 with bronze valve guides, ARP studs
Valves: LS7 titanium intake, hollow sodium-filled exhaust
Induction: FAST LSXR 102mm
Oiling system: ARE Stage 3 with Katech HCS/HCP (red) pump
Price: $18,403 with supplied LS7 or $30,403 as a crate engine

Two of them now have a locally built stoker, the another a KATECH. A fourth person in this group went back to basics with a stock crate motor and spent the time / money to totally gut the car versus HP.
Visit the track and walk around the front of the Corvette pack, you are not going to find any engines under a Greg Brown price tag that can last the weekend. Unless the owner / driver is also the complete engine builder. Someone like Mike Simard.

I do not know if Vinyl_Tien will be tracking his car. I had a 2008 LS376/436 Vette and it ran just great without any issues. I did not track that car and so few do. Kinda tough to beat that LS376/480 (slightly hotter cam than the LS376/436 above) for street use. Also, 150 lbs lighter than the 928 motor and comes with a warranty. You cannot argue with a Greg Brown or Mike Simard build, but there motors are really overkill for street use, and this thread is about a motor on a budget .02. T

I just like to point out, to get a Chevy motor on the same quality level as our vendors produce, you need to spend the same kind of money.
Is there a market for a "street only" stoplight busting 928 stroker motor? I have no idea, I guess that is what this thread is for.
I can already guess what Greg's answer is on that
What I would like to see is a stock 5.0 with Mike Simard's cam and intake (or some other design intake like Todd's or some of the others in the works) with a good exhaust like Greg Brown put together. My gut feeling is it's 100% possible to build a 400rwhp N/A engine with a stock lower end.

I agree with H.P. on the Mike Simard, Greg Brown & Todds setup on a budget 928 for a power increase of 400+ rwhp. Only needing to add hp at the top end of the motor, re: intake, cams, (and of course exhaust), without having to go near the botton end, especially if not needed. I spoke with Greg and Colin a few weeks ago at SF and really like not only what they have to offer now, but what they have in the works for our 928 motors just around the corner. Also waiting to see what Mike Simard has to offer in the near future. Would like to see more Press Releases or updates on RL from these vendors regarding not only race built motors, but some budget minded power increases for the majority of 928 owners. 77Tony
