Who's a Grease / Lube Expert?
I cleaned the grease / lube out of my wiper motor since I couldn't ID what was in there and didn't want mix incompatable greases. Question is what to put back in?
The factory seems to have used some sort of medium to heavy petroleum jelly. My research online has shown people using a range of products: Lunriplate 105 (and other white lithiums), moly, bearing grease, etc.
Curious if anyone knows what grease / lube was used by the factory, or if they've had success with something else.
Thanks

I'll do it before Randy V. gets here...
Huh, huh... he said lube.
I use every lube you mentioned, and more. For the wiper link/mech. I'd go with white lithium grease.... er, I mean lube.

For inside the wiper gearbox, I used some synthetic bearing grease. The original stuff had hardened up to the point where it wasn't circulating at all in the gears. Cleaned the old stuff out with a little spatula. I think I used some Mobil-1 from the cartridge. This is visually the closest (red color) I've found to what the factory used on front wheel bearings, by the way, and gets used in lots of other things now too. I'd previously used Redline CV-2 but ran out so the locally-available Mobil-1 got the duty.

Go for krytox baby! One of the best greases on the planet. If it's good enough for the space shuttle it should be good enough for the wiper motor. If it needs lots of grease it wouldn't be worth it. That stuff is amazing though. I put it on weatherstripping and it's still there a year later. The best weatherstripping protectant you can buy IMO. A tiny tube of this stuff goes a long, long, way. Resists water and breakdown like nothing else. macmaster-car is cheapest place you can get it. Grease goes farther than the liquid form. Lowest grade is the only affordable one. One of the high grades costs like $1600 for one grease gun catridge! Only NASA can afford that!!!

Thanks guys, sounds there's been success with many of the choices out there.
One more that came to mind after I posted is Optimoly Olista Longtime 3EP. I know its used on clutch components, but it seems to have similar properties to the wiper motor factory grease - fairly thick / viscous, non-runny, stringy, etc. Not sure its the same stuff, but it might work well too.

For that gearbox, I was looking for something that flowed better. The 3EP is really stiff, too much so for the wiper gearbox duty. 2 is thick enough that it won't leak out, thin enough to stay with the gears as they turn. My two sense.

Yup, no question...I looked at some 3EP this evening, and its stiffer than the factory wiper motor grease. You could work it into the gears when putting everything together, but it won't easily fill back in if it gets cleared when the gear rotates. Will be sticking with the other options suggested.
