Default Dancing Oil Pressure Needle at hot idle

Is this the sign of an electrical problem? or something that could actually be mechanical? It only occurs at hot idle.

This video is at hot idle, up to 4K, and back to idle.

To me it dances too fast to be mechanical, but who knows.

I was thinking of adding a black light and strobe in my interior to enhance the effect, but then I figured it may be serious problem and I'd better look into it.

Weird. What RPM is the engine running? The pump teeth are coming together faster than that pulse rate, in any case.

What oil?

I'll offer that it's not a case of the oil pressure actually varying like that but is a sympathetic oscillation between actual pulsing from the pump and the mechanical part of the sensor. If it bothers you, try a new pressure sensor.

I saw that in the 82 Weissach I drove for a few years. Never did resolve it. Remember the engine goes to something like 8psi but the gauge stops at 5 so it just could be over 5 when it stops dancing.

You running Amsoil?.......................and with that the thread deteriorates!!

It still could be electrical. Im not sure on the details of how the sender actually works or calculates the pressure and"sends" it...there could be some sort of interference in he signal line or the pod that is only influenced in the rpm range you see it happen?

then again, this DOES NOT happen when its cold though...right? hmmm

Adam my oil sender was missing its boots at the sender poles. I bought Help! style distributor boots to cover the poles. 88's have two poles as I recall. Maybe just a clean up and replace (missing?) boots?

Might be worth getting a real gauge on there and seeing what it does (if it still does the same)...a google search came up with all sorts of worn this and worn that..... If only when hot suggests the higher viscosity when cold is "compensating" for something..?

Glen, this is Mobil 1 20wi50. Stock idle to 4k then back to idle.
Tony, back into your hole. Actually, your comment about it only happening when cold is what is causing my concern. Could this have anything to do with the oil cooler?
Stefan, - do believe that the boots on the terminals departed the car long ago and the terminals are exposed.

Loose connection or bad sender.

Don't forget to check and clean the 14 pin connection, in the engine compartment. The wires for this run through that connector.

Thanks for the input everyone. In the off chance that I need to drive her down to Sharktoberfest, I just want to sure THIS isn't an issue that I need to cure ahead of time.
