A smell may have several different sources, including the carpet, the soundproofing under the carpet and the shaped foam between the torque tube and the floor. The only practical way to remove that shaped foam is to remove the torque tube.

Thanks.

I removed the torque tube 5 months ago. The foam was fine and didn't smell. The carpets are been removed and cleaned but the car smells yet.......It must be the soundproofing.........

Has Someone used the original soundproofing?

How did that turn out? Is the car just as quiet, quieter or about the same?
Mine too has a smell. I just figured a PO had left the car open during a rainstorm.
The seats have been redone and the carpet cleaned.

Thanks Duc.

Is it self-glue or you glued with cement adhesive?. Do you know the commercial name of this closed cell foam?

Thanks

Thanks for posting this. My interior is stripped out, and I've been debating whether to remove the original sound proofing or not when I install the additional soundproofing. How thick is the foam that you used. Did you have any fitment issues when you reinstalled the interior?

FWIW, the front tranny tunnel foam is still available from Porsche (928 556 031 04) but the rear tunnel foam piece (928 556 033 06 ) is NLA. Jake, your job with the closed cell foam looks great!

The firewall insulation in the OP's car may have drooped/melted down onto the exhaust pipes. Smells a little like burning clutch, and stinks up the interior.

In my car, the smell comes from the soundproofing. I am sure.

In Spain I have found this soundproofing from danosa, It seems like the original, but much cheaper. http://portal.danosa.com/danosa/CMSS...3&lng=2&site=4

In Porsche, the front tunnel sounproofing costs 140$, the middle is NLA. The rear (under rear seats) costs 280$!!!!!!!. (Thanks Rob)

I will test with danosa...........
