Default Pilot super Sports

Just installed a set of the new Michelin Pilot Super Sport tyres on the Carrera III rims: 235x40x18 F and 265x40x18R

Perhaps not a fair comparo but these are night and day from the previous Contis of same size.

The new rubber is quiet and very resposive to steering input. Got them from tirerack who have them on sale

Anyone have them on?

I'm surprised you decided on 265/40. I also have the same rims and running 285/35 with good ride comfort on bilsteins and eibach springs.
Perhaps 265/40 were sale item?

The 265 rear size was what was on the rims so stock size for the '05 911 so thats what I went with.

I had 275s on the 17" turbo twists rims and they were very close to being to big.

I believe the sale applies to most sizes....not sure.

Malcolm - I have 17" Cup 1's and I run PS2's in 275/40's

I like it as is but I don't think I can go any bigger on these rims - wish I could

That would be the only reason to go to 18" rims for me, may still do
that @ 285/295'ish.

Many of these newer max performance tires have almost no 17" support now...

I too had PS2s on my 17" rims but these new tyres are different.

Pilot Super Sports with a 300 wear rating......should last a little longer.......time shall tell

Me too given the fact that the diameter is much larger than the fronts. Why you did not go with the 265/35 which would match the front in diameter? Sorry for the question but I'm new in 928's and still learning.

265/40 aare pretty tall and if you have the 2.20 rear end you will end up regretting it. I have 275/35/18 and it is a noticeable gearing change from 265/35/18. I needed to go with 285/30/18. My 5th gear is even taller than before. I have to go 90 mph indicated (which may be 95 mph actual) to feel good on the highway. If you had a GT with 2.73 it would be a good thing in my opinion.

Theres barely enough room for 275s and suspect 285s would hit the fenders unless they were rolled.

As stated the sizes picked are same size as OEM for the rims for a hard driven street car thats parked for 6 mths of the year......I dont care if I could go 1mph faster through my favourite corner with much bigger more expensive rubber.......maybe an age factor

So back the original question: has anyone tried these tyres? how do they wear?
