Tips & method to swap headlamp lenses?
'92 Japan-spec GTS has headlamp lenses that are suited to left-side traffic. These are H4 Bosch 200mm 8-1/8" OD. I found what I figure are the correct lenses on eBay, but wonder what the technique is for removing and re-attaching the lenses from the reflector. I've seen discussion of this changeover trick on his forum...can someone point me to the smart method? Thx/T

The are bonded with some sort of, umm, bonding agent. I can't recall anyone swapping the lens. Are you sure it's 8"?

Thanks Bill & James, I will look at the complete reflector assembly and see if I can make the whole assembly change, by adopting the motorcycle reflectors (eBay seller has ***'ys as well as lenses) into the Porsche headlamp buckets. AFAIK these are the "Euro size" H4's that also appear on R-series BMW bikes and some Ducati's. They are bigger than 7" H4's common in N.America. Thx again for your insight. Best, T.

My lights seem to angle up to the left and I am sure that it must be because of left hand driving, (Japan). I am not sure but they seem to have a slight different pattern on the left then the right, maybe its just me.
I have lowered them and cranked the left lamp to the right to try and compensate.
If I could roll the lens counter clockwise 15deg, that would fix the problem. maybe thats what you want to do if your lens is off.
Personally I would not disassemble the lens from the reflector.

Many years ago I had sucess replacing a smaller broken lense with a good reflector with a intact lense with poor reflector. Removing the broken lense was easy. Removing the good lense required destruction of the poor reflector.
I have not had the guts to try removing the lenses on my S4 but will have to try it one day to clean up / refinish the reflectors. If you could find a way of cutting the bonding agent sucessfully it would work. Any tool to do this would probably need to be fabricated for the specific task.
If you do need to replace the full lenses I would be interested in the ones you have.
Nicole is correct - rotating the lense will not correct your pattern.

It is probably illegal to be driving with what you have now... for good reason IMO.
You should fix it ASAP.

This was said before when the stronger bulbs were discussed in his tread but looks like he ignored it. Imagine driving towards him in his RHD lenses and stronger bulbs. Very selfish if you ask me.

Agree, I had the same deficiency on my Japan-spec 968; not fair play to weld on the retinas of opposing drivers. I opened up the headlamp bucket on my 928 and had a close look; the original Bosch sticker is there, but Bosch P/N number is faded. The Porsche P/N fitted (it's visible on the sticker) for left-hand traffic is 928.631.102.01 which goes with option code M492 "H4 headlights for left-hand traffic". The correct for right-hand traffic headlight part number is (As far as I can tell) 928.631.101.03, which is priced +/-pretty widely around the world. Now I'm hunting these headlamp assemblies. There is a slick little plastic clutch that snaps over the socket where the cockpit-adjustable headlamp hi-low aim adjustment fits into the six o'clock position of the headlamp frame. With luck I will have these existing H4 headlights for left-hand traffic for sale in the near future, plus a moderately-ventilated wallet.

I turned then down, way down and cranked the left one way in.
Really, you should crawl out of your cave.

I'll give it up when a$$holes like you stop blinding me with their illegal lights. How many people have you pi$$ed off before the attantion that you love so much got better of you? Putting stronger bulbs in a RHD lens light is moronic at best and turning them down and away does nothing to your ability to see the raod. I love my cave!
