The beauty of the "sliding adjusters" is that they do more.
This compensates for clutch disc wear and also ensures that the intermediate plate can stay perfectly parallel (when released) with the flywheel and the pressure plate.
You get the adjusters pinned in place (or welded) so the intermediate plate isn't perfectly parallel to the flywheel and the pressure plate and the clutch will chatter.
(We've had to "undo" a bunch of these things that got welded slightly crooked and made the clutch chatter.)

I think most are in land fills I would imagine.

I suppose that is possible , but if done the way i have outlined, it is only sprung-forced to the flywheel there is no contact with the ears of the H adjusters as you know. so, i suppose if they were "welded" while not in the clutch pack, on the car, bolted to the flywheel, one "H" contact could cause an uneven release force one side of the clutch discs. however , if it is "bolted" or "pinned" on the car, this cant and wouldnt be an issue. your concern about wear adaptation, is a good one. but i imagine that couldnt be an issue unless the discs had been almost worn out... also, you metion "welded" but you are talking about that being naturally happening due to heat or rust....i had one adjuster that was really loose, and the other two were not as bad... even when they were not even, the dragging was the only characteristic i experienced. (i.e. couldnt get it in first gear without turning off the car, and driving and shifting really wasnt that much of an issue once you got moving.). i just havent seen a worn out clutch disc yet on any of the 928s ive worked on. ive seen some pretty bad pressure plate and int wear, but even old clutch discs have some meat left. I will also say, this is just a salvage effort for those int plate that have this slipping "H" adjuster. easy to do, fixes the issue for a very long time, and in my case , near permanent.
