Default 81 front brake hose p/n question

can anyone tell me the difference between the 079-00 and 079-02 front brake hoses? The 928 ROW PET seems to show either will work for the 1981 928S. Anyone know for sure? Thanks.

Or get an equally good set of SS braided hoses from 928sRus for $75 and have some spare money to spend on your car 8>).

May be slightly better but not $75 better.
If you race your car I would use Goodridge no question, however I do not race my car which is the same as the majority of 928 owners.
Just saying not arguing.

Got it, cheap wine good wine what's the difference ? If you can not tell, there is none. .....besides most anything is going to be better than 30 year old brake hoses...or Ripple.

Do you stainless hose arguers agree on a lifetime for stainless lines?

Let's all remember that "DOT Approved" lines mean very little for this part as the tests check mainly for burst strength and twisting at the ends and does not cover lifetime from fatigue. Stainless has very poor fatigue behavior compared to rubber lines and it's rubber that the tests were developed for.

As to the original post, keep an eye on the lines you order. The S brakes came in two types. The early lines use a threaded fitting at the caliper. The later ('84+?) use a banjo fitting. I'd include a note on what you've got to prevent confusion.

GlenL: It's the threaded fitting at the caliper, not the banjo fitting. So can someone confirm whether the earlier front rubber hoses ending in -079-00 and -079-02 are interchangeable or not for the early S calipers? How can I tell the difference between these 2 hoses visually when I pull mine?

Oh, there's a difference. Components made in England vs. components made in China. Each and every line individually pressure tested, from Goodridge. A lifetime warranty on Goodridge....who knows what kind of warranty from China? A big corporation with product insurance to back up their product vs. "I really don't know who, in China, made these pieces."

Goodridge is so picky about his, that they will not allow their W/D's to make DOT lines up, out of Goodridge parts. You have to sign a document stating that you will not do this! All the DOT lines are built by the Goodridge factory....only!

Racing/street doesn't make much difference to me....when I grenade the brakes, I'd like to not be thinking: "Sure hope those Chinese made components are going to work, this time."

Thanks, but I'd rather figure out some other place to save $75 than on my brake lines.

Greg,
Where does it say my hoses are made in China - what are you smoking tonight?
They are assembled in your back yard in Torrance, CA. Teflon hose comes from Japan.
The President of the company was President of Goodridge and has the same quality regime.
Brake Hoses are DOT Certified (not just approved) so they meet or exceed MVSS-1006.
Roger
