And I don't think they are very hard to install....got to be way easier than welding a panel in and then trying to make it all flat.

Call your friendly local Porsche 928 parts vendor and ask for the following:

78-89: 928 503 501 02
90-95: 928 503 501 03

Some have installed only the roof panel itself:

Others have replaced the roof and all the cross brace pieces as well:

Never seen a measurement on an accurate scale. Next time I'm at 928Intl I'll saw the roof off a sunroof car and weigh it.

Let me see if I can summarize what has been posted so far in this thread about this project:

The OP posted that he has eliminated the sunroof mechanism in his 928 that had apparently been hitting him on the head for some time.

The OP admits that he had also eliminated the sunroof mechanism on a previous 928 about 10 years ago because of the same problem and that that 928 has been in some kind of storage since then.

The OP states that he can weld, but not too well and that it would take him weeks to weld in a new panel to close the opening in either of the cars that he now has with the gaping hole in the roof left by the removal of the sunroofs.

The OP states that he has had about 10 years of time to contemplate the filling of the gaping holes he has created.

This thread suggests that the OP has not figured out yet just how to properly fill the gaping holes he has created in the roofs of at least two 928s.

The perimiter of the sunroof opening is just about 100 inches.

If the rain does not come to the area of the OP until about October, he would have about 70 days to complete the welding of 100 inches of continuous weld to put a steel panel into his gaping hole on at least one of his gaping hole 928s. That would be about an inch and a little more each day. I think I could weld that panel in in about one afternoon, but he should be able to weld it in in about less than 70 days.

Now the OP is concerned about the weight of the replacement panel. What is that all about? Did the OP suffer greater injury to the top of his head because of the greater weight of the sunroof material, or is that a red herring?

Then, the OP wants us to suggest how he can fill the gaping holes without his need to deal with paint. WTF???

This guy has had 10 years of contemplation about how to replace the roof panels or to fill the openings and now he is trolling the Rennlist to see what others can suggest about how he should do it? That is perhaps a proper subject for this forum, but I still think that that suggests that this project is a train wreck.

It must SERIOUSLY suck to be you. Imagine actually having to deal with the neurosis that must fill your head 24/7

Its been fun, but I think I may have to put you on ignore. Trolling? I've been a member since 2001, and before that I was on the email lists since 1998, 1999.

I want to thank everyone ELSE for their input here. I bought an aluminum panel today and I'll cut it to size and start shaping it to match the curve of the roof and see where that leads me. Its been fun so far, and boy, do I love the headroom.
