Default How to increase HP in my 82 928.

I want my 82 928 to have more horse power, more of a bark if you will.

Will headers fit?
Should I cut out the Catalectic converters?

Headers and exhaust system make a nice improvement.

I installed a Borla SS exhaust on mine and I could tell a difference plus there is definately a more noticable growl.

I have not purchased headers yet but on my list.

Before we give you pointers on HP increases you'll have to show us the inside and outside of your car.

If it passes visual inspection, only then can you contemplate HP mods.

Far to may ugly neglected 928s out there with money being spent on HP mods.

We're waiting.

Euro heads, cams, intake. Then 85/86 tubular headers-->Ypipe-->Hiflo cat -->Borla catback.

I think the main thing to start with is a good service and tune. Make sure everything is 100% before fiddling with anything else. Your exhaust is not original...someone must have played around there already. Oh and a word of warning....NEVER EVER rev an engine like that when it's cold! You MUST wait for the oil pressure to drop back to max 3 at idle before redlining it. This means driving it sensibly for about 10 minutes - and don't just let it idle...you need to drive it so that everything gets warmed up in the gearbox as well...

Pull the lump and go with a BBC and TH400. That should do it.

Seriously.

This.

If it seems like it is too slow, there is nothing you can do to make it significantly faster, short of a supercharger. If you start trying to do chips, headers, etc, you will end up spending a decent amount of money for a really minimal increase in power. It would be cheaper to sell it and get an s4.

Tough crowd today. I don't think exhaust work is gonna make much real result in terms of the performance. It will sound like better and that may make if feel better, but that's most of it. You are probably looking at $1500 to $2000 for headers, cats, and cat back with little real gain. Other options to consider:
1) swapping to a later 928 with more power.
2) swapping in a Euro S motor. Can probabably pick it up for about the same $ as the exhaust you are talking about and it WILL make a big performance difference.
3) swapping in a S4 motor. More $ than number 2 with only slightly more performance and a lot more work.
4) supercharging it $3000 to $5000 with similar or better perfromance to 2 or 3 with less work than either. Might have some chance of getting your $ back when you are done playing by pulling the blower system off and selling it seperately.
5) Euros S heads and cams. Less performance up tick than 2,3, or 4 but still pretty serious. The most work of these options, but possible to do it for around a grand if you are lucky and take your time looking for the parts.
