Default 1st Porsche, 1st 928

Hi All,

I have got my first Porsche, it joins my 300SEL 6.3 Benz & 52 Ford pickup truck.

It's an Aussie delivery RHD '83 928S, Chocolate Brown, tan & Pascha interior with 15 inch Phonedials.

I also got 16 inch (16 x 7, 16 x 9) wheels (993s????) with it and need to get some tyres.....I would love some advice on width/series!

I also would like to get some fresh struts.

RennList appears to be the FINEST Porsche 928 forum, and I'm proud to have joined!

Cheers!

Welcome to the Shark tank.

6" is a bit skinny, I like a min 225 up front, and that take a 7" I think at least.

Whats the model year of your 928, and post some pictures soon (you may need 5 or 10 posts before you can put up pictures).

Hi Mark , and welcome .
The 15" dia wheels ( phone dial's & same width F&R) generally only came with the 4.5L 928 ( 1978-1982), where as the 16"X 7" dia wheels( phone dial or Fuchs optional) came with the 928S ( 1980-1985), and the 1986 year type had the 16" X 7" Fuchs forged wheels standard( because of the Brembo 4 piston calipers in that year).
The 16" X 6" 911 fronts you mentioned are a bit to skinny for the front engine'd 928 , the 16"X 9" rears are fine , in other words the 911 fronts will cause understeer when pushed.

Regards
Bruce Buchanan

Congrats and welcome. I am curious to know what kind of classic cars do you think are the most popular down there.

In all honesty, Australia may be the V8 bonehead capital of the world......but with that said.......

There seem to be more NEW Benz/BM/Porsche/Audi on the road per capita than I can ever remember seeing!

As for 928s.....they seem to be the 'red-headed stepchild' of the Porsche world.
I got mine in a trade - I wasn't looking for one, but I jumped at it once I knew exactly what it was - the previous owner couldn't stop apologising for the "daggy, stripey" interior (Nice Pascha!!!!) which was one of the key features that attracted me!

In recent reading (and understanding), It seems that the 928 was an absolute Cracker of a car, and the fact that they are so undervalued (at present only!) next to their 911 brethren just makes the deal even sweeter.

My 69 6.3 Benz has gone from average $10K to average $25-30K in the last 5 years!

I mean......a V8 Supercar with leather etc.....for the price of a 10 year old Hyundai????? This was the Veyron of its time!!!

.....and I know which will have LESS breakdowns

Just to be clear.......I think this could be the BEST, and most underestimated Supercar in the world today, and easily fulfils it's design aim as a fast, comfortable GT tourer now, 30 years down the track, and much better & stylishly than the best that the Japanese could dream up, let alone mass produce!

Thanks for all the welcomes, and I look forward to a day when I can give more than I take from this fine forum!

Welcome Mark .... where in Melbourne are you? ... I travel over there quite often. My 82S is a very late 82 with many 83 parts and features, and there are a few more 82/83's here in Tasmania. Looking forward to seeing some pics too. You'll find RL to be a great source of knowledge.

Is it psycho checker board (Pascha) or purple striped cloth (maybe a Jubilee)?

OK.....help me out here...

TYRES

I've rung all 5 half-interested tyre joints here in Oz for my 16 x 7/16 x 9 rims.

they all say 225 fronts, with a limit of 245 rears, and they're NOT refering to what will fit under the car.
I didn't know the difference betwwe 2 inches (7>9) was 20 millimeters??
Are they just too lazy to get anything decent in???

FUEL PRESSURE CONTROL

I have read some AWESOME write-ups on & via Rennlist on the CIS K-Jetronic, and I think I finally understand it!

Methinks that a permanent fuel pressure gauge in line between the FD & the WUR would be priceless.....anyone done this? pix?

I'm also pretty chubbed up over the in car A/F gauge some guys have, and I could not believe how cheap they were when I finally tracked them down.....so I wanna get one pronto!

Help form reading old posts on this site just turned my 928 from a 'finnicky sourpuss' into a user-friendly smile-machine.

With great thanks
