I finally got up the guts to go further with the seats in my S4. I have been very happy with (911) sport seats for the last 5 years, but have been wanting to try the one piece 996 GT3 euro type seats. Comfort seats are like 60 lbs each, sports are at least 50 lbs, and these are maybe 22 lbs each with sliders.
Sold my 911 sport seats, ordered these replica seats from http://www.rotteccarbon.com/ along with 993 sliders that bolt right up. Also picked up some 5 point belts and rear shock brackets from Carl Faucett that anchor the shoulder belts.
I have 3 hours drive time in them, and love them. Nothing will beat 928 comfort or sport seats for long distance comfort, but I am going to give it a go in these.
The seats are replicas, so no FIA approval, but going with the real things will set you back double the money.
Seats $1200, sliders $100 + shipping. Belts range from $120 to $300+ for a set, and the brackets from Carl are $60 plus $800 shipping (I kidd!). The red stitched cushions were extra, but they did not have plain black leather so they cut me a deal. It ties in with my red stuff under the hood anyways.
I am ready for next year's assault on the Blue Ridge Mountains!...

I don't see a lock for the original 3-point belts, and would not want to be strapped-in by 5-point belts all the time.

It's great for the track, though - is that the intention?

I had the genuine seats, not that that makes much difference, the foam in the OEM seats still packs down pretty quickly. They do make you feel much more secure, I fitted them after my car accident one of the things they help is to hold you more securely and at that they work well. They are only good for short journeys as they only have foam for comfort whereas normal seats also have springs.

In the end I had to sell them as I couldn't get into the car anymore, they are more difficult to get in and out of and you really notice it when you have a back and neck problem. The one thing that others may find interesting about my accident was the car I was in, had really poor seats. The Acura TSX in 2004-08 was rated "Poor" and the seats a "Fail" when the American Highway an safety institute tested the car. The seats are bad in that car and contribute to 3.4 times the tension force being felt in the neck in than that would be suffered in the following model. The front seat occupants also developed neck shear force also whereas the new model develops zero shear force, this was all in regard to rear end accidents. So seat safety is a really important thing.

I think that there are a few things here that have some importance:
We need to know what seat alternatives we have that bolt right in to the 928.
They are affordable as an alternative seat if your originals are in bad shape.
They give you 1-1.5" more headroom for taller drivers.
You could still run your 3 point belts if you prefer.

928s have very few parts out there as alternatives to original equipment in areas like: exhaust, suspension, wheels, and some other areas as compared to the rear engine crowd.

Nicole: if I know there's a chance I will see you again I will have the 3 point belt ready. Hope to see you at SITM next year, or even at the Boston show in September.

I like them.

I had a fixed back Sparco in my S4 for a bit as an experiment and loved it. Much more connected to the car feel, and of course lots more headroom - nice for me at 6'6". Surprsingly comfortable for daily driving. Added bonus of sitting more upright was that I could more comfortably reach all of the controls, made for a much more enjoyable driving experience all around.

I took it out as for daily driving it was a pain in the butt getting in and out, but I haven't ruled out a fixed back seat, I may try to find one that allows easier ingress/egress.

For the track...some orgs will frown greatly on a non certified replica seat without a roll cage.

Once you leave the DOT/legal safe hardware in the seats & belts, you many times have to get up to SFI standards for the liability coverage to participate in track days.

Looks great to me. I can't see fitting into those as a daily driver, but for a weekend or track car, they would be good.
