Scott, If I find little Lancias drinking my wine I'll just drown the little f-ers in beer! Hrmmph indeed!

Where I live, driving Porsches is "fraternizing with the enemy" so I'm already offending and likely to be hung. That said, the sound of my (also offending) neighbors 599 is just sooooo appealing that I want one regardless of the practicality or reputed lack of reliability....

And yes I did look at this AMG GT but it seems to be a competitor to the 911 and too sports oriented to take on the role of a true GT used for luxurious touring.

Like Ed often points out. This is a first world problem.

Enjoy!

Well then, no problem. It's good to know you have a solid containment plan if there are "accidents".

Keep up the good work,

Things may be worse that you think......
Your car is at least 24 years old not 17 years... Right?

I'm not replacing my 928 anytime soon, and could not afford one of these if I was, but... the Jaguar F-Type Coupe has a lot of the same pleasing aspects at the 928. Long hood, curvy rear, wide stance, available with an actual manual transmission (a must, in my world* no real sports car shifts itself, and paddle shifters are also unacceptable). I saw one recenlty while driving my 928 and was amazed at the similarities, which do not show up in this photo that I copied from BringATrailer. The rear wing looks very stupid when deployed, but I'm sure I could deactivate the wing if I owned one of these - it must be easier than changing the dash vacuum pods on my S3!

*in all reality, nothing I can afford is new enough to have paddle shifters anyway, so it's sort of like my having an opinion on Gulfstreams vs Learjets.

Looking at it from the rear in-person, its hips/quarters, tail-lights, shape of the rear window - it is perfect!

Exclamation Stay On Topic Please

Some of the posts were drifting into personal criticism and away from the theme. If you want to jab at each other as you debate whose is bigger, take it to OT or P&C. If it comes up again in this thread, more will be deleted and folks will start earning demerits and get KP.

Keep it civil, focus on the OP's question. All posts will include your car choice, OK?

Some of it was downright hostile. Appreciate the effort to get back on topic.

Some of the choices are fascinating. The Aston Martins & Ferarris are gorgeous. Same with the M-B/AMG. And well out of my price range. The mix of people, experiences, 'life situations' and such on here is pretty cool.

I honestly don't know what I'd choose after having my 928.
Another 928 is a bit cliched, but that's really where I'm at.

If, for some reason, I would have to get rid of mine, the current replacement choice would be another one. Presuming I'm able to.

The choice of 'hearse' comes to mind, but that's more of a taxi ride than anything else.

New 599? How beautiful!

I am looking at the 2007 599 on BAT with 17k and good records. I have a few practical questions if you have a moment.

1. Is the 599 quiet enough for easy phone conversation while driving on the highway?
2. Can you put golf clubs in the boot?
3. Do you consider the 599 to be a Grand Touring car or is it a Sports Car?

Thanks!

Looks like many more of you are being bitten by the AMG GT bug. So who's throwing in on a brand new GTR Pro that just came out?

I'll sacrifice my 928 for one of those. Or maybe 6 of them (928s that is). I just read the Car & Driver review/test of the "plain old" GT R. They ran it at VIR and it came out 3 tenths of a second behind their first place car, the Porsche 918, which is, I believe, almost 10 times the price of the AMG:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l36XNHQvt08&feature=youtu.be

I checked around dealers in my area and couldn't find one within 2000 miles of me new or used. I did find a few used GT S coupes in the color I like (the metallic gray), but no Rs. If I option one out the way I'd want it it comes to about $190,000 which isn't bad in my opinion; not for a car that beat a new Ford F40 (~$600,000 from the dealer, over $1M in the "secondary market").

Any way you look at it, this car's a winner I think. So far the only thing I've seen that beats is is the 911 GT2 RS, and it's least $100,000 over the AMG, or the 918.

It sounds like the big difference between the GT R and the GT R Pro is the suspension and maybe some of the aero. I wonder if the suspension mods can be added to the R? That would put a used R in the running for me if I could find one. The carbon ceramic brakes are an option on the R so that should be possible. After running my 928 a few times at Laguna Seca I'd say it's biggest weakness would be the brakes; it's just too heavy for the brake set up on the '85. I've literally melted racing pads on the track, so I think the carbon ceramic rotors on the AMG are a must. I'm also very interested in the new coil over system they put on the Pro.

I'm breaking the piggy bank as soon as I find one I can test drive...
