Default Sad Morning

What a start to a day!

Went out to start car to go to work. Turned over a tiny bit, maybe 1 revolution.
Then nothing, locked up. Tried to turn it over a couple times thinking "battery?" Wouldn't budge.

Took breaker bar to crank, won't move. Crap!

Pulled plugs and looked at them. Look fairly normal, kinda clean.

Turned engine over with plugs out, 1/3 cup of oil water comes out of passenger side rear plug hole. Looks like I have a fun weekend coming up.

Spoke with Sean, sounds like head gasket or cracked block. Really hope head gasket or I am in for a couple fun weekends pulling and installing another engine.

Bonus . . I get to buy some new tools and if engine has to come out I get to buy an engine stand. Glad I have an air-conditioned garage. Sounds like I am gonna need it.

To top things off, I leave for Disney World Sunday. At least I'll have a fun week next week!

Most likely is head gasket since you have the upgraded thicker heads. Seldom would the block cracking. Good that it did not fire or it might have bent a rod.

If there was anything other than straight coolant in there its not a cracked liner.
If there was oil and water in there, it is likely to be a cracked head (no where else for the oil to enter from).

Also if you tried to crank it, and it moved at all with the starter. Pull the engine, drop the oil pan, and inspect the connecting rod for any damage. Replace the connecting rod bearings too.

That does suck.

But, all that before work?

Yep, all that before work in my dress slacks and shirt on a creeper. Put the car on lift bars, jacked her up and went at it. Lift bars are the chit man!

I am up for a wrenching GTG in Dubuque if anyone nearby wants to come and learn how to do a head gasket with me. Prolly do it the weekend of the 30th of July if I don't dive into it after work when I get back from vacation. Any takers that are nearby. I have a large fridge of beer and lots of food.

It would be worse if it was a car you didn't like but still had to fix.

Maybe I am missing something here... why would a cracked head or a blown head gasket prevent the engine from turning -even with a breaker bar?

I could see a seized bearing doing this... but a gasket?

I doubt the rod is bend. I had the same problem and due to my mistake I broke the cylinder wall open. The rod was not bent. They are the same so called GT rods or cast rods, they started using them in late 88 all the way until the GTS motors.
