Greg S's 5-spd GTS on EBAY

However, in the absence of this type of context, the conversation of value is going to come up any time a relatively rare, extremely high priced, and or extremely low priced example comes up for sale. It's human nature.

Don't get me wrong, I love my 928.. but Porsche stopped making 928's because of the insatiable demand. Which by the way is why for the past year I've been looking at Wilhoits cars.. on ebay.. that have 1/4 the milage for the same price.
I hope he gets the money.. but like you said I'll wait and see..

I hope everything is good with Greg. Unfortunately, we (you, me, others and maybe Greg?) know all too well about personal misfortune and tough times.....
I do agree with you that Greg's GTS is worth every penny he is asking and more. Best wishes to him and best of luck with the sale of his prized GTS.

I like my EXTREMELY low mileage 928 btw! But, if I could have the car in the same (or even close) condition but with higher miles I'd take that every day because then I wouldn't feel bad about driving it ALL THE TIME!

Reading comprehension?
Those are automatic's (not that there's anything wrong with that...)
5-speed GTS's always carry a 25%+ premium over an automatic.

Yeah, since I'm the one who made that first post "slamming" your car, I'll respond. My post was "Nice car, but this should be interesting." That was the whole post. I knew what was coming based on both the advertised condition of your car and your take it or leave it price. Sounds like you're extremely sensitive if you consider that a slam.
The price you listed your car for was ridiculous, and the car would never have sold for that. Rather than go into detail, I merely left a bemused post. I edited that post down even further out of sensitivity for your wife's medical issues which were brought to light later in the thread. The edit had nothing to do with my perception of your car, its value, or any subsequent posts by people "in the know".
In this case, I don't actually believe that the car is too overly high priced. I think it will be a challenge to sell at $33K, and will probably sell for high $20Ks if the seller is serious about selling it.
These posts by owners about my car is worth $XX or I would never consider selling for less than $YY are meaningless until the car actually sells. It is very obvious on this forum who actually pays attention to what these cars sell for and who just emotionally throws prices and values around.

What's wrong with "Looks nice GLWS"
I didn't call you out for any personal attack, just pointed out why most seasoned owners who are serious about selling their cars will not even post them here, just ask Chuck Z. I consider myself a seasoned owner after two 928's but I was not dead serious about selling my car so I started here, because oddly, this is where I sold my 1st one, at my asking price of $15k.
And it is not a parts car, so I don't consider you among the "in the know" crowd. It was not a take it or leave it price, unless you didn't read the thread. And I was contacted by 2 guys about the car that deal in them for a living, so the price must have been real close to what they thought wasn't ridiculous.
This is an open forum and not a classified ad. Us in the peanut gallery will chime in, as many do. As so often happens in this forum there are a few strong personalities and if you don't agree with their opinion you get shot down and berated. See prior "for sale" threads.

It was the popcorn smiley that made it flaming, IMO. But let's just drop it as it gets us nowhere.
Your point is valid about cars selling at what the market will bear, when the seller needs to sell the car quickly. But GTS 5-spds are not your average used car and most of the time their owners don't have to sell immediately. I agree with you, if Greg has to sell it fast, he will negotiate with the first serious buyer and the price will come down. If he doesn't have to sell it fast, and he can stand firm on his price, he will probably get it after a longer time on the market. But the AC will have to be fixed to get $33k IMO. Nonfunctional AC is a serious bargaining chip for the buyer. If I sell my car at $45-48k it will take over a year or more, maybe 2 years. I am a single enthusiast with a single car, not a dealer with a website and worldwide connections.

And people often wonder why some of us don't post the good ones up here in the forum, but instead rely on word of mouth for selling.
Sold an '88 this week that was in great shape, got 3 GTS's lined up and ready to be sold, two 5 speeds and an auto, guess where they won't be listed.
Some days I think this forum takes on the personality of Pelican.

Greg's car is an example of a higher milegae car that is extremely well sorted and the asking price is right in my opinion. What the car actually sells for is determined by Greg and the car's buyer.
But the AC will have to be fixed to get $33k IMO. Nonfunctional AC is a serious bargaining chip for the buyer.

Gregs car has ALWAYS been one of my favorites..if not favorite 928. I hope things are well with him and the car finds a deserving home.
i can think of a nice dry climate...in my parents spare garage 1 mile down the road...but i would be sleeping there also after such a purchase.

The reason most likely is they are silver in color adjust those glasses alittle too,not because of the auto.
Sales brochure back then auto ran 5.6, manual ran 5.5 0-60 so no big advantage on a manual like the earlier years of 928's
Miss a gear spin the tires more is what a manual is good for.
Only good thing about a manual trans is when I used to drive an 18 wheeler up hills,it did help downhill too
there's a plus lol.
Porsche PDK auto trans is also going to be the future and manuals are going to be a past.
They should let Mark K.back in here as the forum would be more exciting about whys and why nots, that part I miss
as its been boring in here without, lost a good racer with knowledge on our cars.
Bottom line is there is a small group of 928 buyers being auto or manual trans they aren't selling like they used to
at this time but things can change depending on supply and demand.

Hi all,
I think it's really difficult to make too many statements about the value of "this or that" car.
In the end, we have a small, illiquid market here. If the right buyer can find the right seller, a higher price will be paid. But, very often, the right buyer is sitting very far away from the right 928.
As some of you may have read in other posts, I am in the market for a 928 right now. So, it's a slow process visiting the different cars and talking to the various sellers. Need to do some road trips... That's on the weekends... It just takes TIME.
I am also fully aware that if I pay USD 30'000 for a car and then want out later, I could be sitting on the car for quite some time. Until the right buyer finds me....
Cheers, JP
PS-Regarding worf928's statement that manuals have a 25% premimum, I disagree. Automatics have "the dis-interest effect," so that I would ONLY buy a car with a manual... But that's just one opinon in a small, illiquid market...

You see, this thread took on this direction when someone ask why Greg didn't list his car here, and with your every post, you answer that question proficiently.

There again you demonstrate your resounding lack of knowledge. Any mod that is not permanate doesn't hurt the value of a GTS. Carrera III wheels, 928 SLC x-pipe, and 928 Blackbird intake can be reversed back to stock when you have kept the stock parts, if you where referring to my car, or Greg's with his mods.

BTW I was referring to ANY mods on a car. When I buy a used car.. I want it as original as possible. But that's just me.. and again I'm not coming to the table with cash for the car so who cares what my opinion is.. and in my opinion (probably leave it) if anyone buys a GTS, especially for more than $40k.. I expect that buyer is going to want it as original as possible.
Don't get me wrong.. I'm not trying to be mean... I WANT you guys to sell your cars. I just hope any feedback that can be given helps you sell the car quicker and closer to your asking price.
