Greg S's 5-spd GTS on EBAY
#16
I disagree. I think it's.. optimistic. they may be trouble free miles.. but there are quite alot of them. Esp. with cars that have one quarter the miles on ebay. As I've heard sooo many times: If I didn't just buy (insert any purchase here) I'd be all over this.

Nice to see somebody take care of their stuff.
This one is ready for a timing belt, based on interval and miles, but that's a pretty simple job.

sub-33k-mile GTS 5-speeds?
Riiiiight... they pop up every week on e-bay for less than $35k....
I mean Porsche made like thouuuuuusands of the them.
Find one of those that's sold for less than $50k in the last 5 years. Better yet, one that is as up-to-date catch-up-maintenance-wise as Greg's. Or just the first one.
Go ahead. We'll wait.

Don't get me wrong, I love my 928.. but Porsche stopped making 928's because of the insatiable demand. Which by the way is why for the past year I've been looking at Wilhoits cars.. on ebay.. that have 1/4 the milage for the same price.
I hope he gets the money.. but like you said I'll wait and see..

Some points:
- The 928 was built like a tank. They're not disposable at 100K miles like some Pontiac Sunfire. Properly maintained, they will be running strong for decades to come. For a more proper comparison, think B-52 or some other decades old aircraft that's still going strong. The 928 will be the automotive equivalent.
- This particular example is very well maintained and as evidenced by the comments from those who actually KNOW the car, it would compare very favorably to cars with MUCH lower mileage. You don't win Peoples Choice at SITM without being in showroom condition. The attendees there KNOW 928s. The know them because the OWN one or more, some of them for many years. To win such an award there is quite an accomplishment.
- It's very easy to drop $5K-10K in one of these that has significant deferred maintenance, particularly if you're paying someone else to do the work. You won't have to do that with this car.
- You did notice the wheels alone were a $4K upgrade, amongst the many others. Granted, as a seller you don't expect to get a dollar-for-dollar return, but as a buyer you're getting those features at a great discount.
Just my two cents.

Actually, looks pretty nice to me too!
If I wasn't already moderately advanced in negotiations to buy a 928GT (that's not much cheaper than this one), I would consider this one.
Cheers to all, John

I'm always fascinated by the AC conversion horror stories. Had mine done last year, and cannot feel a difference.
The only difference is that it costs less to recharge, and the system is no longer leaking...

Uh Hunh. Typical rennlist. 100 reasons why it SHOULD sell...
I don't care as much what people SAY.
I look at what people DO.
When someone on Rennlist puts up the cash and buys the car then I will be happy to write how I was wrong. Until then.. I'm waiting for the post that it sold at the bargain 33k, or I predict if that doesn't happen everyone on this list will be congratulating him on how he'll be happy he isn't selling it, and he shouldn't have sold it in the first place... when he decides to keep it.

I wonder why he didn't advertise here first? Not implying anything, just wondering...
However, just throwing it out there...is it a tad expensive given the mileage? Once again, not implying it is, just wanted to ask some knowledgeable people their thoughts on the pricing...and of course there is the admittedly impressive condition and documentation, bordering on OCD to account for...

Greg obviously knows this proven fact and chose not even to bother posting it here at all. Even though it is a free place to list the car. Hell, just read the post right before this one.
I posted my GTS on here a few weeks ago (b/c it was free) and the very first responding post was a slam against the car, that was soon edited by the author. There were a few other posts slamming the car and saying it was priced against 996TT and other bull****. Several members in the know posted saying the car was priced correctly, but the point is, why even post if you have some bull**** opinion about the car? It's an advertisement for the car, not your condemning opinion.

The price you listed your car for was ridiculous, and the car would never have sold for that. Rather than go into detail, I merely left a bemused post. I edited that post down even further out of sensitivity for your wife's medical issues which were brought to light later in the thread. The edit had nothing to do with my perception of your car, its value, or any subsequent posts by people "in the know".
In this case, I don't actually believe that the car is too overly high priced. I think it will be a challenge to sell at $33K, and will probably sell for high $20Ks if the seller is serious about selling it.
These posts by owners about my car is worth $XX or I would never consider selling for less than $YY are meaningless until the car actually sells. It is very obvious on this forum who actually pays attention to what these cars sell for and who just emotionally throws prices and values around.

This is an open forum and not a classified ad. Us in the peanut gallery will chime in, as many do. As so often happens in this forum there are a few strong personalities and if you don't agree with their opinion you get shot down and berated. See prior "for sale" threads.
I would love that my 79' would sell for 10k dollars. It won't. I don't get upset by the fact. "Value" is determined by what a person will pay for something, and what the seller will sell it for. Period. No open wallet to pay for something, then it's not "worth" what the seller is asking.
You guys "in the know" can berate people for not agreeing with your cars "value", but the bottom line is if the price doesn't generate an offer or a person willing to pay it.. it's not "worth" the asking price. If someone really wanted a car they wouldn't give a rats about some comments on a board.. they'd cough up the cash for a PPI.
BTW I also thought the price for the red car was optimistic and in my OPINION (it is a right in this country) I agree with the assessment of the poster above on what I feel the car will generate in this market.

Actually, now that I'm on the bandwagon..
The 928 market, who is the buyer? I don't have empirical data but I'll venture:
40% new purchaser men that see the low price $1500 "porsche" and buy it because it's an "affordable" porsche (ebay, car lot)
30% have wanted a 928 since they were kids and found it finally within their range and bought one (ebay, car lot)
20% exisiting porsche owners of other models that would like a 928 to their stable (prior 944 owners, etc.)
5% existing 928 owners who are adding to a stable
5% have always wanted a GTS and will pay whatever for it
I'm not knocking anyone personally.. I do think that discussions on the boards further the model.

Classic example of why anyone in their right mind would never list a car for sale in the "Tech Forums" on Rennlist.
Pretty much all you will get is negativity from those that:
(A) - Don't have a clue of what they are talking about.
(B) - Those that can't afford it, and try to tear it down in silly hopes that can get the price down to their level. (good luck with that)
(C) - Pure Jealousy and Envy - usually related to (B)
For all the naysayers concerning price...please post links to any similar 928s (year/trans/condition/enhancements) for sale or recently sold that you THINK is a better deal...we will be waiting to gain from yor extensive knowledge of the 928 GTS 5-Speed Market.
In the meantime some REAL Buyer who can afford it is going to get one of the nicest well kept BLACK ON BLACK GTS 5-Speeds in the WORLD (for sale or not).
FWIW, I have seen the car more times than I can count, and have had my head under the hood probably more times than the "naysayers" have ever even seen a GTS in person (and most probably any 928).
If you haven't seen ANY of Greg's 928s in person...IMHO you are clueless to make judgement. I can't think of anyone that takes better more **** care of his 928s ..AND yet still uses them as they were intended.
When his 100K+ mile GTS wins Best of Show out other GTS', some with with less than 50K, or even less than 20K miles (that are kept wrapped in plastic and trailered to the event while Greg always drives across 3 states to the event)...you may want to at least see it in person before passing judgement on it's worth...
Better yet, for those that are on the market and can afford the price..go test drive it. Then come talk to us about it's worth, only then will the ones of us here that know the car will think you have a clue.
Greg is one of a very few people I would buy a 928 from without even driving it or seeing it in person. I have personally watched Greg take care of his 928s for the last 13+ years...and there is only one way he does things.... RIGHT.....with no expensive spared.
FWIW, I agree with NamasGT, I think Greg has it underpriced...but he is obviously serious about selling it fast and not playing games or fishing for a higher number.
If I could afford it...this thread would have never been started.
