Default went for a high spped run today

My brother in law has been drooling over my 928 for a while now. Last time he was in town was just before sharks in the mountians when i was in the middle of the TB/WP job......so no ride for him...
Keep in mind that this is a 23 year old whose only car has been an old 4 banger ford ranger.... SO he came over today for dinner, and we went for a ride. We went to a long straight stretch of desolate road and let her run....

we went sailing past 140 and it was still pulling, and chickened out between 145 and 150..
I was reading the thread about when the 928 was the fastest, what beat it. There were several postings about the top speed being 140-150 ish, well from first hand experience it is above that..............

these cars pull like a beast past 100..... If Josh had a piece of coal in his rear it would have been squeezed into diamonds.........LOL

Steven,
At 145mph you would have just been hitting redline...in THIRD gear.
4th would have been good for a lot more.

yes, we were still in third gear.
like i said, we chickened out at mid 140's... and still pulling hard.
By the acceleration I am guessing that we would have broken 160..............

Because of the stored kinetic energy being E=M C squared it takes LONGER to store the energy needed to move from 140 to 160 than it does from 40MPH to 60MPH plus of course more and more of the horsepower is being absorbed by the wind resistance leaving little for acceleration. And then there is no more Your 3 to 4 shift also drops you down on the horsepower curve and you cannot hit redline in 4 th !

I minored in physics in college so i understand the physical constraints, but i would think there would be less of a gap between 3rd and 4th so as not to land you below the power curve and put you in a dead zone

also, if 3rd shifts at about 150, i would assume that you could squeek at least 15mph out of it.

You'll get there (165mph), but it will take awhile, that drop from 3rd at redline to 4th is a big one.

Most cars, no matter what the top speed is rated or specified, only go as fast as the driver is willing to take it.

You guys are a bad influence.

I've had my car to 72 and felt like I was pushing my luck.

With the supercharger I run out of nerve before I run out of power. My car is still pulling really hard at 140-150. I am scared to think what the top speed would be!

LOL.....
he is definately hooked...

he kept going on and on about how sweet the car was, and how it would be a chick magnet.. he could not stop talking about how fast and smooth it was.....

I do think he has one on his radar, but his finances are pretty tight, so it may be a while...But he surely has the bug..

We live across from the waterfront where our town launches the fireworks, so he had some friends meet him at our house so they could walk over and see the fireworks and hit a few of the bars.... he took all of them out to show them the car, and kept on and on about it....

We also had a set of guys about break their necks looking at it at the gas station as they pulled past the pumps... he loved that attention almost as much as i did..
