84 Automatic Transmission - FS cheap
I have an 84 Automatic Transmission for sale. I bought it with the intent to put it into a cheap race car to just get on track, but some plans have changed.
200 dollars plus shipping. Pickup would be good too in SoCal - or I could drive it to about 200 miles away maybe if there is some agreement on sharing costs.

insanely great price......
I ran the "original" 4 speed auto in the lemons racer for over 50 hours on track......no issues....just a fluid & filter change.... it had 140K on the odo when it broke....with 50 hours following that....

Do you need an extra to build up and modify?

It would fit, essentially, either. I will PM you with the same info, but to share here - I did once put an 84 transmission into an 81 that had its 3spd break.
What is needed, as I recall, is the cross member from the 83+ auto cars, and some changes to the shifter cable, and to make your life easier - the bowden cable from an 84 (or whatever year 4spd car you are putting it into).
Man - did it wake up that 81. A whole bunch.

Do you recall if there was a difference in tunnel space between 81 and 84?
If not, that means the S4 box could also be shoehorned into an early car.
And THAT would be good to know for other projects.
(I put an 89 S4 into the 84 --- just drove and parked it 5 minutes ago, love the way it runs, tight fit though).

I also recall people mentioning "BFH"s when describing getting S4 transmissions into early 78, 79, 80, 81, 82 cars.
Further - I did not need to hammer anything to get that other 84 transmission into the 81 all those years ago.... Man, that car screamed.

At this point, it has been about 8 years or more since I was dealing with it, and I am not much of a note-taker. I personally did change the K member. It MAY not be needed I suppose, but I know the TTs are different lengths.
