if you have the time and money then go for it, some people get total satisfied from restoration than write a check and drive away, try to pay as little and you'll be ahead.

we're not trying to be mean or get you off of it so we can swoop in and grab this beauty...
cosmetics aside this car needs at least $5k to be road worthy/semi dependable
skip the paint and it needs another $5k in cosmetics to look "decent..
more power to you if you want to give it a shot, and folks here are more than willing to assist...
but you'd be better served finding another project or stick that $$ into your current shark and make it a true beast

Three Wheelin'
Its been hit in the rear - the clip is bent uniformly across the "PORSCHE" with the bumperettes pushed in and the rear shocks are collapsed... I recongnize this cause mine was just hit (lightly) by an idiot who was TEXTING and ending with the same results. The repair is costing the dumb-@$$ that hit me $5600 including a new rear clip from Germany.
It looks like the only thing left on this car worth salvaging would be the engine, tranny & some exterior panels, hood, etc... IF the engine & tranny work...

This is pathetic. I guess there is no way we can save you from yourself and this piece of crap you have stumbled across. At this point I suspect you are on you way to buy this poor car for probably about $1200 notwithstanding your $500 pre-established limit. I guess you are going to have to learn your own lesson rather than rely on the many many years of specific experience in these kinds of situations that you so gracefully begged for us to share with you. Next I suppose we will get to hear from you about how to solve all of the myriad of problems that you are going to be confronted with about this car after you haul it home. Good luck.

Much as I'd like to see you save it - it doesn't sound like you're fully prepared for what this save is going to cost you. If you can afford the $6k to get it on the road and driving nicely, then you're looking at the wrong price bracket to enter.
Seriously - look at some of Landseer's old threads about his saves.. and compare the starting point. His finds aren't unique - if you sit tight you'll get as-good a starting point especially with the help of the Texas 928 grapevine.

If you like the car, buy it, you really never know how its going to turn out later, anyway! I just bought a 1980 Euro-S auto for $1200 on ebay, as far as I am concerned buy as low as you can and in the best condition you can. Lets face it the lower the price of the car the more money it will take to put it right. There are a lot of nice & better 928's out there but they cost more!!. This is my 4th 928 I've bought, I will have 3 of them with this one, sold the first one I owned. There is a balance point of condition & price vs the money spent to fix it up, thats strictly a subjective call, irregardless of what these guys say! There are very few bargains around except for the rare ones, which don't come around often & then you have to be real quick to grab them, so you have to get real lucky! Buy at the price your comfortable with!

Sounds like this is going to be an expensive life lesson, try and enjoy it if you decide to buy it.
Trying to start it was a big mistake. All sorts of things could have gone bad from a timing belt breaking up to setting it on fire.

Good Morning all you 928's Hero's and fans. I did NOT buy the car. The is a piece of CRAP. After I told the owner that I was backing out, he was "I could have sold the car 5x's over." (Sure old man, to the salvage yard maybe).
I am a straight shooter and most people try to take advantage of that. I tried to reason with the guy and shared with him that this was a Salvage Yard car. Heck there was a rats nest in the Mass Air Flow Meter.
I felt bad and I offered the guy 500.00 he said nope. I tried to reason and explained what he had and offered to buy some parts off the car, rims, front grill, etc. He said nope gonna sell it whole did not wanted messed with. That poor old man looked like the car, old, tired, nasty and just a bad man and car.
So long story short walked away with 10 OEM Oil Filters from Porsche.
Warning The Video you are about to see contains graphic content and my not be suitable to young Porsche 928 Owners. Enjoy...

No, I just spent $1500 in wheels and tires!
If I had to sell it i wouldn't expect much more than 8k, but I dont plan on selling it anytime soon.
Good work walking away on the car. I don't have near the knowledge of most guys on here, but after reading the forum for close to a year now I think that was a nightmare waiting to happen.
