I had to lookup that trigger wheel... looks like he is doing a lot more than me. Sound like he might be replacing the engine managment system.

RE: EGT... No the S4 doesn't have probes...I was just pointing out that prior to WBo2 becoming available (and now cost wise available to the 'hobbyist') no OEM or engine tuner worth a damn would just guess... and hope they are safe... they would know the state of tune by using EGT's

Anyways... now days the price of WBo2 systems is such, that if nothing else it brings good piece of mind... at least to me... (I'm not even boosted )

Hi Kurt, good thread!

I think they are a must tuning aide as well as great for troubleshooting, along with a Fuel pressure gauge. The simple ones don’t tell you much (rich/lean) and are useless IMHO.

When I first installed the Innovate controller I place it on top of the CAT heat shield wrapped in an insulator, as I don't run CAT's I figured it would not get all that hot.
However after a few hot summers (hot road) days I moved it away from the exhaust and now have it mounted via zip ties to the Battery cable that runs along the Frame rail, it sit's in between the Bat cable and the brake line (it stays at least 15 deg’s cooler).

By keeping the controller under the car one can easily disconnect the Ox sensor for calibration. I then zip tied the cables together and ran them over the bell housing into the stock O2 sensor hole, you’ll need to modify the rubber plug to fit both O2 sensors wires (I run both). I used a separate fuse and Ignition on only feed from the CE panel and tied all grounds to a single lug connector (all connections are soldered).

Here is a tip I learned from AO, you can use a shop vac inserted in the exhaust (wonder where he got that idea) to pull air over the Ox sensor for re-calibrations. It works but for the first time setup I would do it by the book and use free air.

If you noticed when you went for a ride at SITM, I have the LED and Re-cal red button mounted next to the AFR gauge for easy access for re-cal, but I find that now I seldom use it. I’ll add some pic’s later.

Once you get it set up your going to like it, as it will show how your eng is running.

Hope you have it installed by SIH this year and you can make it !

You actually tried this? Mine didn't complelty fail instantly, it had to open less and less, over a short period of time. Anyways, you are right, WBO2s are cheap but if you have a conservative tune, I don't think you need one.

I've tried disconnecting a plug lead, so I know that 1 cylinder missing will peak the gauge lean.... ( at idle anyway...)

I haven't tried wiring in a warning system however ( i just have a gauge).... thinking about it some more, it's a little complicated, but certainly doable.... no point hooking up a buzzer or light that goes off at lean (eg 4.9v) as that would go off everytime you liftoff the throttle.... but it could be linked to the throttle switch, so only activated when throttle position is at 2 or 3 and when the WBo2 picks up a lean condition...

Not crazy about the silver bezels, but other than that I think these gauges will do.

Just an idea for gauge placement. With the wheel i have and the position i sit...everything i need is in view. I used autometer gauges to keep a somewhat "stock" look. Everything is illuminated and there is plenty of room in the parcel tray to run wiring.

Dang Tony, one would practically have to be an airline pilot to keep an eye on all those guages

I looked at your idea earlier, but with my steering wheel and pod postion preferences I didn't have enough visibilty.

Kurt-

Looking at your console pic, I happen to have a black vinyl console/shifter surround piece that already has a V1 remote display installed in it and has the rear-air control cutouts, which would save you cutting up your original, if you haven't already done so. I think the part # would be 928 552 047 10. Holler if you're interested in it.

Quick test fit… darn close on the first try (and I manage to orient 2 out of 3 correctly). Need to clear out a little plastic here and there, but this gives a good basic idea of what it will look like.

I just whished the bezels weren't so shiny. I don’t know if I dare try spraying them with night shade. I think they would look fine so long as they don't start chipping.

I really need an old trashed LCD clock so I don't destroy my good one. I need to fabricate a bracket to hold my rear contorl ***** and V-1 display... Anyone have a spare?

Maybe I missed it, but it looks like you are custom making the console plate from flat stock. I've been waiting for Jerry Feather to get back to his flat console plate project. What stock did you use and how did you do it?

Bill,

I made it for Kurt. He was the guinea pig for getting the lower console insert done. Kurt is using an uncovered "prototype" part, which has the finished outside dimensions of what will be made available, but is unfinished with just the native bare material exposed, and he has chosen to fasten his old Design Paul Champagne boot and boot retainer plate ontop of the new boot retainer insert (you can see the new part wired into the console. Production version will have a less rigid mount using a silicone o-ring to allow float and ease of installation of the boot.) Production versions will have a new leather boot made to the dimensions and increased base height of the insert. I hope to have some further information on the new boot later this week, I just shipped the first trial part down to Paul this past week. As you can see, three 52mm gauges fit very well in the console, requiring minimal trimming. With modifications done do the guage retaining rings and/or gauge bodies, it *should* be possible to install them without modifying the console itself. Kurt has also identified that a replacement plate is necessary for mounting the rear climate control *****. I will get replacement plates mocked up later this week.

I will start a new thread on the project after I get back from Hell. Until then, I think it would be best to try and keep this thread on-track regarding Kurt's project in particular.

Thanks,
Hans
