This thread was designed to help find someone to save the car.

Maybe stew on it for couple days, and if a buyer willing to save it hasn't surfaced... make a decision then.

Ugh.

Wish he at least had the good taste to buy a 79 or later for parts car. The 77 and 78 cars have more historical significance.

Yup, maybe sometimes posting these finds on here is not such a good idea.

Ok guys, yes I get it. Yes I bought it for some of the parts......doesn't mean I will part the whole car out. I have a somewhat early '78 #340, and I want to get it on the road. This is a much more economical way to get some parts that I want and need. I may get it here and decide it is too good to take anything from it. I also need to see if it would even be able to get registered. I might decide to make it a track car just to try to start a collection like Jim down the road, but don't think I'll ever have a "shark tank" like his.e Hell - if the headlights are good I could turn around and sell it for $1000 and I would be about even. Seems like a good decision, but I will let you know how it turns out.

Alan,
I was under the impression you owned '78 ROW serial #530?

If you half part it out, or make a complete car no-so-complete, it will more than likely never get put together again.

There were some people here who thought this car may be a fuel system R&R away from being a runner again.

On the brighter side, this car's fate in Calif. seemed bleek as it was. So out of Calif. gives this car a chance.

Good luck, keep us posted.

Will do and I understand your concern. Will update on this thread when I get it. Seller says there are a lot of parts in the back rather than in the engine compartment. Feel like I'm playing the lottery.

More fun than the lottery, though!

That's sorta the way I felt with the platinum 85 car. $1900 and the only clue to potential runnability was that the belt was still on it. Took me 8 months to work up to the answer.

Do what you can, maybe there are a pair of 78's in total, maybe just one, keep an open mind.

Some states with a bill of sale you can apply for a bonded title which for a fee can issue a title. The bond assures that if the real owner shows up the state is not responsible. The add on Ca vin number does not match the chassis vin number so who knows what that means.

Ca requires that any back fees with penalties, any outstanding parking tickets be paid, and it must pass smog before they will title/register any car. Take it out of state and you must satisfy that state that the bill of sale is REAL. Their main concern is that the car is stolen or has a loan against it and that is why the title is "missing". Note that you ALWAYS want the title in the name of who ever is "selling" you the car so he can sign it in front of you and you confirm his drivers license name and #, many Craigs list cars are being "flipped" by unlicensed dealers who are avoiding paying the registration and transfer fees. They are "selling it for a friend" , for their "father-in-law" , etc. Then when any issues come up (like it will not pass smog) they are long gone and never appear on the documents.

If this becomes a complete part out, I would be interested in the front fenders if available. Don't mean to be the first vulture circling the carcass, but uncut front Euro fenders are unobtainium.
