FWIW if you have 3 small bolts holding the gear to the spider then the cam pulley shouldnt move when you tighten the cam bolt

Stan, I don't think 3 small bolts in the spider can be tight enough to prevent all movement when you apply 47 ft lbs to the bolt. Best to re-check the timing afterwards. I've often found movement, and have even had to offset the initial timing setting so it was correct after torquing. Maybe I'm doing something wrong, but that's what I've found.

Bill, I have not been seeing any movement on the gear when i have tightened it.
I use a 30MM wrench to hold the big nut washer then use a torque wrench to tighten to 48ft/lbs and this is done with the Porken alignment tool and the 3 fitting screws tightened down,
otherwise i remove the rotor then fit 3 screws before turning the belt/cams so to keep the spider/pulley in the same relationship.
If you have been seeing movement then i would suggest to remove the cam pulley and inspect the spider as there is quite a possibility that it has fractured , this isnt very common but it does happen, I think from forcing the spider onto the cam/woodruf keyway and or having the bolt being loose,

NOTE wipe off any oil on the parts, spider to cam and spider to pulley so they will have max friction to hold them in place

I have not seen any movement either.
I always inspect the hub for cracks with a magnifying glass, and often replace them.

Yep that is how I have been doing them, so far w/o issue.

Also is it a "pulley" or a "gear" ? I always thought they were refierenced as "Cam Gears".

Yes, Porsche calls that part the cam hub.

Davek9's way (leaving the tool installed while you tighten) will show you if there is any movement. If you guys don't see any movement, that's great. As long as you check after tightening. That's all I was suggesting.
