Default Seafoaming the car-safe with Alusil block and engine internals?

I want to clean out my engine before i do an oil change, so that the seafoam doesn't sit in there and gum everything up. I'm going to deliver it via the brake booster vacuum line, and have someone sit in the car to prevent it from dying, then going to shut it off and let it (hopefully) soak down the cylinder walls and valves, then let it sit for 15 mins (as recommended) and then start it up again.

Is seafoam safe with the 928's internals? I have gutted cats so i'm not worried about ruining them. It's not going to be in the engine oil at all either, or the gas tank, just the combustion chamber and valves through the vaccuum line.

any reason why you think you need to do this?

I've mixed it into my fuel on occasions to clean the injectors and have seen no adverse effects.

The combustion chamber is a pretty harsh environment. I'm pretty sure the bores can handle a petrolium based product.

do not put that in the oil unless you are willing to gamble, I am not willing to.

Running it through the intake downstream of the MAF should not hurt anything.

I have personally seen two cars with the oil filters plugged solid from leaving seafoam in for a couple days. One got lucky, one got a new engine.

Sounds like a larger problem than seafoam..which..is quite popular.

Not among any mechanics I know on fuel injected engines, and damn sure not in the oil.

Cigarette smoking is popular also, some get away with it and some don't.

Yeah, I wonder where all that crud in the filter came from. Seafoam is a pertroelum solvent, mostly a light machine oil (pale oil) and naptha. Shadetree mechanics would add some ATF, which has high detergent properties, and run the engine for a few minutes before an oil change to dissolve sludge. Seafoam won't harm anything, but I would rather just begin a program of regular oil changes with a good synthetic if you think the engine service might have been ignored. The engine internals will be clean as whistle in a couple of changes.

While not advocating the product, who you know, isn't more than a narrow swipe at the interwebs and the people that do use it..and yet the internets are not full of cars in ditches after using seafoam.

Hell, did wonders for my 83 RX7 getting junkyard motors unstuck (apex seals) when the racecar needed a replacement [often].

But..seafoam did not clog up an oil filter...anecdotal evidence is nothing more than white noise, with a TON of detail not present.

The RX7 is a different breed, we both know that.
I have made a ton of money with plugs and ATF on RX7's that have not been used for a week or two.

I am just not a fan of any thing that breaks loose crud that is built up in a motor, some things, like EX wives and engine crud are best left where they are.

Default A Ton of detail

Last year a coworker added seafoam to his wifes Tahoe on the advice of a quick lube tech (ticking lifter), within two days the oil pressure gauge is low and the engine is knocking at idle. He changed the oil and filter and the oil pressure was back up and knock gone. He brought the filter in and we cut it open, the pleats were clogged with pasty sludge.

A couple months ago a neighbor asked me to look at an older toyota he bought for his teenagers to drive, the engine had a real bad rod knock. Found out he had added two bottles to the oil and drove a week or so to flush it out. We drained the oil, and cut opened the filter it was packed with sludge and aluminum.

That's enough real world personal info for me not to repeat others mistakes.

I bet I have seen at least 50 engine ruined by putting some kind of cleaner in the oil, mostly seafoam.

True.

But your statement reads:

He smoked, and that's why his socks smell.

MAYBE..its forgetting to change the socks on time, and has nothing to do with smoking...

Cause & Effects are critical things to place on the same plane with each other.
