I'd be afraid to tow my 1976 Force5 with a Dakota.

But I have towed it with my Supra.

Good luck with the car. Hope you got a good one and get it home safely.

I have towed many a cars with my Dakota, it has a pretty good towing capacity and I have the V8 and heavier suspension and 9" rear end, even factory wired for trailer brakes. So it makes a pretty good car hauler.

2:20 AM just back from a loooong day. I picked the trailer up at 10:30 (earliest I could get it.). and ran to central New Jersey and back to Richmond VA.
No problems with my V6 quad cab except for a few hills and being a little light things went well. was able to keep my distance and run 70-80 with or without the car on the trailer.
Car looks as described. PS leak New dead battery. Got to get the list out and get ready. Bed time. I'll post pics Monday. Tireeed.

Hope you took notes during timing belt school Charles.
I did take notes, but I lost them. Good thing I know where you live. Kidding.

Here is what I experienced. Car sat while in tow and overnight once I was home, so about 17 hours.
I charged the battery for about 1 hour. Turned the key on and off three times. Car fired right up. Took it on a drive for about 8 miles. Car was a little rough running, but better than I expected. Wife popped up the headlights and after about 5 minutes the radio cut out.
We kept going and were about 3 miles from home on a country two lane and in a curve when car dies. I get out and start pushing. Up hill of course. (Sharks are heavy!)
With some help from passers by we topped the knoll and down she went. Wife turned it into a sub division. No cell phone and 100 degrees. We lucked up and got a ride home with county deputy sheriff. Recharged the battery for 15 minutes . Car fired up and got it home.
Seems as though the PO theory of bad battery may be wrong. Alternator may be bad or something interfering with charge.

No, I mean pics of you pushing the car up the hill and then sending your wife downhill in a Porsche 928 "coaster".

Checked the voltage across terminals on a 6 month old Interstate battery. Put a charger on it and let it sit for 30 minutes. car fired up. Voltage without any extra load was 11.75 turned the lights on and voltage dropped again. I let the car idle for about 6 mintutes the voltage slowly dropped to below 9 volts then the car shutoff. Checked the voltage across terminals again and it was 10.50.
Checked the alternator belt I can twist it 180 degrees. I'm thinking tightening the belt?

Charles, I'm thinking do the full electrical clean process on the car before you drive it again.

Anybody can place a bet.

We are trying to encourage you to count the cards.

Sure I'll do that. But should the belt be that loose?

charge the battery for a few few 5 five hours ,
tighten the belt and start the car see what the voltage is at the hot post,
if its less than 13.5 then the brush holder is suspect, followed by the diode board.

dont keep discharging the battery unless your planning on installing as new one before you start driving the car ,
only run the engine long enough to diagnose the charging system
