Next time, tell them you are towing a 1962 Fiat 500 . Nice get Charles.

The U-haul trailers are quite heavy duty really designed to be used behind their big moving trucks which is where they make the big money. You could use the dolly if you pulled the axles or had the engine running trans in neutral...

You need a bigger tow vehicle. It is all based on weight of tow vehicle and vehicle being towed, along with hitch rating, etc. If you rent the trailer with a bigger tow vehicle, it will work. Borrow an F-150 or other full size truck or SUV and you can get the trailer for the 928 (if truck is quad cab - more weight/towing capacity). Try different combinations of tow vehicle and towed vehicles online to figure out what will allow you to get the rental.

You really don't want to be towing too much weight for your towing vehicle. Pretty deadly situation.

Yes. Those U Haul trailers are heavy. Please do not tow beyond your vehicles limits, especially at the hitch.

I've use the full trailers many times with my 02 Dakota QC, it does have a V8 and the towing package though. I just plugged in my truck with a 5000lb hitch towing a Dodge Neon and it has no issues with me renting either trailer.

We recently went off to rent a UHaul trailer for a 928 using a Tahoe. UHauls computer said no dice....we showed the GWR and towing capacity tag on the door of the Taho to the UHaul dealer/manager and pointed out that the trailer weight and the 3300 pound 928 were well under the 8400 pound towing capacity of the truck. They did an override via a phone call changed something on the computer and all was well. We did the tow, no issues. The problem is UHaul has some bogus data or bad programming I think...they tried the same on my F150 with a factory trailer towing package 2 weeks ago.....here is the recommended max towing for the Dakota....

Good suggestions all around. Put in for a tow dolly. They are upgrading me to a trailer as they said now my truck can handle it. Also apparently 04 and above F 150s will work. below 04 they won't work.

Assuming he has the V8 Dakota the towing capacity is 6,100lbs.

So unless that trailer weighs more than 2,500lbs he's fine.

I've rented U-Haul trailers quite a bit over the years, their system has some serious bugs. Few years ago i was told my friends truck in the parking lot was not within spec for their trailer. It was an F350 dually.

Towing the car hauler and a 928 with a dakota might get scary - that's a lot of weight back there.

Or just tell them you have Porsche 924, then they will let you have it.

If heaven forbid something back happened requiring a claim etc. you can say the Uhaul person made a typo of one number different, easy mistake.

Worked everytime back before I had my own haulers.

Yes, their data is skewed at times. When I had my 2000 Nissan 4x4, they told me it was not rated to tow a Volkswagen Type III Squareback with no motor on their dolly. Guy was a moron, and did not want to rent anything to me based on the data in their computer.

use a tow dolly - back the car onto it. Dakota should work just fine for this.

This is how I towed my race car before. Just make sure the front spoiler doesn't drag.
