This car was listed on ebay last week, right? So Donald listed a car that he doesn't at this date have a title for. I didn't "watch" it so I don't have a copy of the ad, but I don't remember it saying that. He did mention it as a parts car.

It is truely amazing how many people sell cars with no title.....Craig's list is full off such adds...."Bill of Sale only" The purpose of a title is to convey OWNERSHIP anything less is bogus ! Even parts cars need titles that is the ONLY way to confirm it is NOT STOLEN or has a lein against it.

Clarification -- looking at the current ad, Donald says as much, i.e., title is on the way, so that takes care of that. As of now, it is a no reserve at $1,000. It is pictured pod-less; Apparently he is using it as a DD, with the cluster bouncing around on the Steering wheel and it has no "mecanical" issues. Priceless.

Yes, a title is needed even for a parts car....don't buy one without it.....I did and it was costly, very time consuming, and certainly not worth the frustration, at any price, including FREE. Hard to say no to free, but even a free no title car is not free...plan to spend hundreds of $$$, and hours at the DMV and it is best to hope it is not stolen (possession of stolen property can cost a bunch, maybe your freedom and right to vote even, and certainly more in legal fees than many 928's are worth)

Just got in off the road.

Donald e-mailed me this earlier
"No problem...if this is what you want to do it is ok with us. If for some reason you change your mind the deposit and car are here. I will relist it....Auction...No reserve after title is in hand, Just let your friends know about it at Rennlist ."

Our deal and my deposit was subject to him having clear title. Below is my e-mail to him.

"I'll put down 100 with the stipulation of a clear title that must be rendered for full payment ,
if a clear title isn't offered , then the deposit is refunded immediately deposit will be 100.00
Please send your paypal address and I will place the deposit."

I did this as the law says you can't sell chattel property with no rights or proof of ownership. AKA title, deed etc..

My intent was not to back out, but to get clear title. I sent him a message yesterday that my wife liked black rather than blue and I found a car with clear title in hand that I can get this weekend. Would he be interested in canceling the deal. If so he could keep the deposit. I should be clearer here as the deal was based on having clear title, which I can only assume he has , but i'm asking for proof of clear title.

He stated in his e-mail "

"I will re-list it....Auction...No reserve after title is in hand."

If he has clear title, then he gets to keep the deposit because then I would be backing out. Based on the ads and not having title and the statement above. I'm not sure if its a parts car or not. Clear title to me means non salvage no liens.

We will see at worst I'm out 178.00 at best I just save a trip to NY and possibly lots of headaches.
Donald seems very easy to deal with and reasonable.

The ad read this morning (I can't keep up with changes) that he did not have title. Note: it is a no reserve. According to your rules you should get a refund. I'll just watch.

I agree. I'm willing to purchase if he has clear title. I'm e-mailing him to ask for it.
I'm surprised he said he wouldn't list it until he had title. Then in the same day its listed. He said he had to have a certain amount when we were negotiating, now a no reserve auction.

His original add did not mention the title. It was after I spoke with him about my working for a legal organization and that he couldn't sell anything without title that he changed the verbiage about the title. Soon after, I clicked the by it now button.

Went to rent the car hauler and uhaul says no to my 2001 dodge Dakota quadcab. I'm sure they have baselines to follow. I have towed things before. Anyone between here and Richmond that would rent me one? for Saturday Sunday?

I'm not digging Donald's tactics.
