Default Soapbox Time...Does anyone ever feel the need to find your 928 PO, just to strangle?

Title pretty much says it all. I work on vehicles for a living, so when it comes to my stuff I like to be extremely picky, especially when I'm doing the work myself...who cares if it takes longer as long as it gets done the way I want it, right?

I have been working on my 79 OB euro, I want to go in so many directions with the car at the same time, but the direction it needs to go towards is the running direction. I have remembered and directed towards the elec schematics and reminded that these cars are elec nightmares...but at what point do you just want to find the PO and strangle the everliving crap out of them for being so stupid and ignorant that you can't solder a wiring connection, or at the very least use a proper butt connector...14 pin in the engine bay is toast and instead of fixing it, he just stripped the wire back and shoved it into the position. I know where everything should go, just now have to "get inside his mind"...as if, that's a joke.

I just really want to make myself feel better, so I'm looking for interesting PO horror stories.

Thanks for your input, you've all been helpful

Someone needs to market a PO punching bag or voodoo doll to take out our frustrations on.

In my recent experience, what I really want to do is strangle my PM (previous mechanic). Greg Nettles is doing a ton of work on my car right now and he's uncovering all sorts of problems with stuff I've already paid to have fixed once (and I use the term fixed very loosely here).

And just to be clear so nothing is misconstrued here by someone speed reading. Greg Nettles is awesome. My problem is with a prior mechanic who I will keep un-named (unless someone wants to PM me).

You need to pick your PO's carefully.

Your PO's what, Bill?

(the apostrophe indicates the possesive form of the noun, or acronym as in this case, so I was wondering what thing of the PO...ah, forget it)

Mine was telling a local shop about dumping a problem 928.
Asked if he'd seen the car around.

Shop guy says, yeah, I've seen it, that guy has 5 of them. We call him for advice whenever somebody else brings one for service.

Be thankful its just electrical jibberish that needs to be straightened-out.

Its the idiots that get into motor mods and thrashing, but no maintenance, that need some post sale input.

I'm not entirely sure how many POs there were nor who committed the many sinful violations but slowly and surely my baby is coming back into spec. The discovery process, learning and fixing is a great ride I am thoroughly enjoying. This is the car I fell in love with pumping gas in HS many moons ago so anything I encounter is fine with me, although there are moments when I wonder what Fritz was thinking when he designed some of this stuff.

Just when I think a preventative maintenance task(heater hose replacement) should be an hour or two I discover multiple hacks(i.e.stripped or missing bolts, cracked plastic connector, fouled hose clamp, etc.) that really needs to be fixed along the way. Two or three days later after the parts arrive I'm back on the road. It's always something but I'm loving it!

What do you do if you trade cars with your PO? Take turns kicking each other in the a$$?

PO on mine was a prince. Can't thank him enough. Dealer service on EVERYTHING. In return, everything except the AC was perfect. I can't blame him for that; half an inch of receipts was for dealer AC stuff. "Check for leaks. No leaks found. Evacuate and recharge." From day one, every three months while he drove it. I fixed the AC. Now everything is perfect including the AC.

I would propose that, yes, once my shark is ready to move I will be less likely to kill dsmf that afforded me this opportunity for shark #2... and I guess depending on the trade, yes, we may take turns choking the other PO out...

It was a trade... I currently have $454 into the OB... $400 was the trade vehicle, $54 into fuel pump (missing)...hours of cleaning contacts and soldering bad connections, priceless

I cant complain about either PO (I'm 3rd)... Both POs always took it to a Porsche or other reliable Mech for repair or maintenance & the car only had 41K miles when I purchased it... The one issue was they didnt document ALL the stuff done to keep the car PERFECT!!! At the advice from almost EVERYONE on here, I replaced the TB, waterpump and tensioner, etc, cause you never know whats been done without documentation... The T belt we removed was like new (still had all the 928 specs on the smooth side) and the waterpump was just as pristine. I spent a nice little bundle on the Racing TB, Laso WP and Porkensioner and am happy they are DONE (piece of mind is priceless) but I wish I'd known the TB & waterpump had already been replaced... my bank acct would be a little bit fatter for when I REALLY need to fix something... Guess I dont have too much to complain about actually

Most of the POs on my long list that I would ike to kick in the pants.....are the ones that mount a dang phone cradle on the side of the Center console with screws (instead of 2 inches lower on the carpeted side panel where it wouldn't show),..the ones that took them to a stereo shop for a "professional" aftermarket stereo install...and the ones who install these spagetti alarm systems running all thru the 928 .

Can only think of one or two I have bought that I didn't spend the first few days removing all that crap....ending up with a large box full of wiring and such to toss in the trash.
