Have you all thought about the mechanical issues that could come along, next to the electrical ones? Especially on a 16v, the spark plug would need to support the weight of the COP's and even worse, the impact of the COP's during vibration and rough roads with 1000 lbs front springs... I've thought about using COP's on my 16v with MS and EDIS, but found they are usually too high and too heavy. So extra support brackets would be needed, some sort of seal in order to prevent collection of dirt, grease and water in the plug recess etc.

I bought a cheap VAG COP to find out untill what length it could be shortened and it was quite a bit. But still it's length was about 8 cm...

I thought it wasn't worth the effort, so I'll stick with the Ford EDIS package for now.

DO NOT USE THE Audi/VW 1.8T COILPACKS. I have them as a conversion on my S6 avant, and I have had to replace every single one in the last year. Terrible build quality. If you do want a VAG coilpack, use the new ones from the V10 engines:

I happen to have a set of the Cayenne coils, and a harness with all the necessary connectors which I may let go if someone needs. I am planning on using either the GM coils or an aftermarket coil from WeaponX. The WeaponX coils have very nice spark density, and full documentation with recommended dwell settings... etc.

I recently purchased an Adaptronic e1280s setup, and will be converting my car over as soon as I have a chance to work on my own projects again.

This thread is very timely

Thanks
Hans

THanks brad, but i was looking for COP on our cars. this sure gives someone like me a lot to think about. as of right now im thinking MS2, COP or Ford Coil pack depending on how my intake design comes out. im in the process of designing my own intake runner/injector base (CNC billet) and i will see how that turns out. i can see the advantage of COP but attaching that unit to the head might be fun...

I hope you can share everything you learn about the adaptronic as you progress.
