We have an old high resolution scanner that only works with XP so I sympathize. We bought it a minature used XP machine on Craigslist for $150.00 and converted to W7 for everything else. W7's much better than Vista.

I think the Vista/W7 adapter also works with XP, but the cheap ones only work with XP according to the web site on my link. So when you get to that point you might try to find one that does both.

For what the shop information programs cost, they should be able to run on anything.
They are really proud of them, 250 a month, but it is a lot of information, boils down to every factory manual made in the last 40 years, with a few exceptions, like Rolls, Ferrari and Lambo.

Thanks for the information, I will look at that adapter.

Any suggestions on converting to a USB on the LM1?
You don't need a serial/USB adapter for the LM-1, unless you want to do separate data logging. For normal use there is no reason to connect the computer to the LM-1, the ST2 takes care of logging the AFR data. And the ST2 is a USB device, no separate drivers needed, just plug it in.

The most important thing with USB drivers is that you want to be able to find the guy who recommended it, when it comes time to actually make it work

Give me a call if you have questions.

Cheers, Jim

+1 what Jim said. I don't have an LC-1, but I do have a TechEdge 2J1. I opted to have it in the car. I was able to fit it and the ST2 in with the LH/EZK brains behind the cover in the corner of the passenger footwell.

I actually have a serial-USB converter for the 2J1 and can interface it to my carputer, but I never use it since I use the ST2 to log everything.

That is good to know, some how I had it in my mind that I had to hook the LM1 up to the computer, but DUH, it goes into the Sharktuner and it hooks up to the laptop.

When I run my ST2 I route the WBO2 cable through the engine bay, over the firewall, through the passenger window and remove after I have finished. I sling the LM1 box and the ST2 on the passenger mat together with the Asus netbook if I have no one to hold it.

The trouble with the WBO2 is that the sensor has to be permanently energised or it will get damaged. I have no lift at home and could see no easy way to run the WBO2 cable into the cabin without drilling holes in the floor pan. there must be soemthing there to facilitate this- appreciate if some kiond sould can describe what I am missing.

On the GTS there seems no where the damm thing even if I do fit it permanently. My late S4 had a parcel shelf but not the GTS as it has the airbags fitted. We do not need to see the LM1 box so I wondered if it might slip under the passenger seat somehow together witht he ST2 thus leaving a cable to connect to the USB on the netbook.

any thoughts/suiggestions appreciated

By the way, has anyone tried th latest offering from Innovate- they offer a p/x deal with a $130 rebate on the return. Is there any real world performance advantage or is it just a fad?

Regards

Thanks though.
Who said that you have to mount the gauge so that it is visible?

The benifit to the Digital MTX is that unlike the LC1 you can simply put the cable through the factory grommet and make it look factory instead of having to mount the LC1 unit under the car where it could get damaged. The digital MTX has all the same wires, and a simulated NB and WB output leads. So just tuck the gauge away where ever you so choose, and use its outputs. Then if you have a problem with it, you can just pull the gauge out and look at the error codes.

I never could make the simulated NB work with my other LM1, did you have any luck?

A little late to the thread, but I dis-assembled the big plug on mine and mounted the box inside the car with the cable going through the standard O2 grommet. So far, so good.

I have had numerous issues with the LC1, mostly controller problems. The outputs have been sporadic. However they seem to have fixed all the bugs with the digital MTX unit. I have not yet looked at the simulated narrowband as I have the sharktuner hooked up, and have disabled the adaption and closed loop functions. However it did have the right voltage when I checked it with a volt meter.

I run the LC-1 on my 930 and its been great for 2+ years. For serial to USB connection when needed I just use a standard USB/serial adapter I purchased at a local computer store. This worked fine on my old XP machine, haven't tried on the windows 7 machine yet.

For a carputer, I am running this Viliv X70 (windows XP UMPC). I run Innovate logworks and also have Garmin Mobile PC (works with built in GPS receiver) and iTunes.

That is very nice, I like that.

Here is what I ended up with, just a simple mount.
