Default Is the 928 OC going to be at the Porsche Parade in Savannah?

Just curious - is the Georgia section of the 928 OC going to be at the Porsche Club Parade in Savannah, GA (July 31 - August 6, 2011)

I got email notices from the PCA about the event, sounds pretty huge.

Parade is HUGE...it is the biggest event of the year for PCA. I have been a couple of times. TONS of FUN! Not sure that anyone has put in a request for the 928OC to be there... Mike McLeod is the regional rep for the 928OC there in GA and it would be his job to make that request to the 928OC for any specific support he might like nationally. Locally you guys can get together there of course and have a presence... you would have to check with the folks putting on Parade though because attendance is probably SOLD OUT for Parade! Usually sells out in the first week...so if you are not already signed up for it you are about 4.5 months to late...

James: Just wondering how your 85 Euro-S compares to your GTS performance wise in acceleration & top speed? Also are the 89S4's and later cars with the 2.72 rear noticeably faster than the 87,88 models? Lastly, does your track car have other modifications other than the exhaust system? thanks, Bill.

My Euro is missing a few ponies but is NOT EVEN CLOSE to the GTS's in performance. I bet when it was new and 100% it would have been pretty close though.

I think the '88 now has a 2.72 trans in it and it made the car MUCH, MUCH quicker (feeling at least)! Top speed should be down a bit, but I don't need to be doing 165+ anywhere in TX anyway!

Track car is pretty much stock (engine) other than the MSDS headers and custom exhaust with the Flowmaster at the end. All the suspension stuff is custom or modified and the cage is UNREAL and the dash is custom with full Autometer set up. That EURO S motor is down on power too and for that car to be seriously competitive in class (GT3) it needs 50-100HP more. S4 brakes go on forever. Car weighs under 2700# and with a manual trans and none of the mods I had to do because of being in a wheelchair it would probably weigh around 2500#...

Let me know what other questions I can answer for you!

Does PCA allow front-engine cars to be seen at their events? I don't think I've ever seen one mentioned or photographed in a Panorama magazine ...

The last Pano cover that I know of with a 928 on it is June 1994. "Buying a used 928" article is in the July 1997 mag. Our 928's could be mentioned in some of the "newer" Panos........in the for sale section.

I have yet to have an oppurtunity to attend a Parade, the timing is always bad for me. I would highly recommend going if you're able, especially if its local to you. I believe registration is still open at the PCA website. You do need to be a PCA member to register. I don't know what kind of access you would have to any of the events as a non-registered PCA member, or as a non-PCA member. As the PCA 928 Advocate, every year I get pictures and stories about what goes on at the Parades and am very jealous of those who are able to attend. There are many 928 R-listers that go to the Parades and I'm sure they can chime in. The concours alone would be worth the price of admission.

Thanks for the info james, i like that dash on the track car! I know the GTS has big torque at 369Ftlb, compared to the GT & S4. Right now I have a 1980Euro-S 5spd, pretty fast but it rattles over rough pavement, its got new Bilsteins/coil springs, lots of work done by Dave Lloyd, but he is out of the business now, spent $10k to buy+ 20k fix up=$30k,( losing proposition) in mechanical restoration without engine/trans being touched! The other car I just bought last year an 86.5 auto($6kbought+6k maintenance=$12k invested) is very refined compared to the euro but slower off the line compared to the 5spd. When I get both cars shined up I'll send pics, my question is in the future, I want either a GT or GTS 5spd, but if I can't get either for a good price, will an 89S4 or later year 5spd be an upgrade in performance & refinement from the two cars i have? i want to buy the right model considering the cars I already have,, I know 3 928's will be about it for me! Any comments appreciated,Bill.

Well, if you can afford a GTS then BY ALL MEANS get the GTS... You can find the right car if you take your time. A 5spd S4/GT will get you 95% of the GTS and those who can't afford GTS's seem happy with that...those who can afford a GTS will probably NEVER be happy w/o that last 5%... Not to mention there are WAY less than 400 GTS's (total of ALL model years) in the US, so there is a rarity and exclusivity value that is impossible to put a price on...

Unfortunately I won't be able to attend Parade this year so I never thought about organizing anything with the OC. My schedule must be similar to Adam's because it seems that there is always some reason I can't make it. I suspect Savannah in early August might be a little too sticky for me anyway. I missed the recent one in NC also. One of these days I'll make it but it's not likely there will be another this close to home anytime soon.

Thanks James, I'll keep my eyes open for a good S4 5spd, I think the GTS will be out of my price range for the forseeable future, if I remember right there is a guy on here with a 7 litre older 928, non supercharged, but don't know the horsepower. whatever happened to Devek? they don't have a website anymore. Seems I remember seeing Kermit in one of the many pics in Panorama when the Parade was in Chuck Z's back yard in Charlotte, NC. Maybe he can confirm or set me straight on that. Heck my memory is fadin as fast as my hairline!!

We're planning on trying to make it this year to Savannah. If not for Sat & Sun, then perhaps just driving up one of the days. We couldn't make it to Charlotte, nor when it was in Tampa either. Course, its within two weeks of our daughter's wedding, so the wife's not too thrilled with the idea this year either.

And regarding the 928 OC at the Parade, I'd imagine that PCA would probably have no problems with the 928s parking together etc, like we did at Rennsport Reunion III in Daytona in '07. For that event they purposely had parking areas set aside for Porsches according to model type. So it was easy for us to have the 928OC banner up with all the 928s together. However, with the 928 OC not being directly affiliated with PCA, I doubt they'd allow much else, officially at least. Especially with all the many PCA activities going on each day.

Hi Mel,

Thats all I want to do is to go up for an afternoon and hang out. See what's going on at the Parade. Savannah is only a couple of hour drive from Jax. I just wanted to know if there was a corral where the 928's would be hanging out.

Joe
