The other option is to buy a spring seat cutter but be careful.

Technically. I did it once, but you need to make sure you put guides in, and then not destroy them with the seat-drill-guide.
The shims were all that was in those heads. No spring seats if you don't have them. I disassembled them and put it all in those bags.

went to the machine shop today. not a problem to machine out the heads for the valve spring cups. now i need to find the lift specs for the euro cams. the only other thing that bothers me is that in the WSM it talks about how only the springs with 2 white stripes can be used with the new parts. the springs i have show NO markings. but they fit just fine with the new stuff... hummm.... the other un known is the valve spring pressure, as in are they to old etc. they can test the springs, and if they need replacing we can go with ford style, from what i hear on Renn that is.
thoughts?

sooooo, the local shop has been dragging their feet on doing the heads. im going to pick them up and find another place. seems they are scarred to do the machining for the spring cups. anyone know a good shop that i can MAIL them too.... ugh. i have yet to hear from roger if he can get the "old style" spring cup parts, and trade the new style he got me. sigh....

Machining spring seats is basic stuff for an automotive machine shop. Maybe the 9mm stem size is odd to them and they don't have any easy-to-use pilots handy?
Can you use parts from early heads? I have a pair of 79 heads you can have for whatever it costs to ship them.

Sorry to see that you are still hung up on this problem.
Call 928 International and have them tear apart two heads with the "early" dual springs and have them send you all the parts (all you need is the spring seat....and an assortment of shims....everything else is the same). Got to be easier than machining the heads.
Should be able to solve it in one day....

waiting to hear back from 928intl. i got some parts from roger (wish i took a pic) from what he could find of early heads. all they were was a shim, a center spring seat (looks like it fits over stem seal) and a top retainer. almost want to see if anyone has a set of COMPLETE euro heads i could get pictures from or just buy... ugh
