Default I am starting to get it

I officially took possesion of my shark today. I have been driving it all around, and just having a ball. I NEED to recharge the AC. But I am loving driving this thing around.
One thing that is SO COOL, is driving a V8 with a STICK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
that is so cool. I went to go pick up my 16 YO son who is suppsoed to get this car when he gets his license. I think his smile was wrapped around his head twice around. He was surrounded by four girls and they all turned around to look at his car.
But tooling around town and hitting some corners this car is SOLLIDDD!. It could be a VERY good car(It IS a good car) with a few mods, but I am screwed with the rare car bit.
But I am really starting to enjoy this car. Its so kewl rowing a boat with a V-8!!!!!

BY THE WAY where is the big DIY website for all those kinds of things? Bleeding the brakes, charging the AC, Putting in window motors, repairing the sunroof????

It's contagious. Before you know it, you will have 3-4 928's including two parts cars stashed in the back yard.

Rare or not, every 16V 928 deserves a better exhaust. Go budget with 85/86 manifolds and a nice 3" exhaust or call Greg Brown for his complete system with headers.

You can find write ups in various places.

The 928 Owners Club (you and your son should join) has resources for members: www.928oc.org We also support 928 gatherings all over the US (and world actually) so put a few of your dollars to good use and check us out.

That said there are some free places to find most all the info you are looking for...this is one of them.

"SEARCH" is your friend.

You might have to get a later model (say S4 or GTS) with a 5spd for you now! These cars are SO ADDICTIVE! Just look at me... Who the hell needs EIGHT 928's?! NO ONE! But I sure love all mine and look forward to adding even more in the future!

Glad you are enjoying it!

Most likely, just charging the AC won't do. Have it checked for leaks first, and consider a R-134 conversion, as losing R-12 can get expensive over time. Important in the conversion is to drain as much of the old oil as possible; otherwise you'll have poor AC performance (which most people will blame on R-134, but I can confirm that the conversion done right makes very cold air).

Stick shift is the only way to go ... and ... you shouldn't stop at just one.

Dwayne has some great pictorial write ups ..... http://dwaynesgarage.norcal928.org/ ... and as James said searching here will yield heaps of threads on any topic. If you don't find the exact answer you need then start a thread and you'll get plenty of helpful responses.

Yes! Dwayne! You are neighbors with one of the great ones in Ridgecrest. He's got some gems and does a great job of documenting what he does. Lucky dog you are.

Dwayne's Garage is excellent as noted above by others (thats basically what the 928oc has in the way of technical stuff too - they reproduced it with Dwayne's permission).

Other useful sites for you include:

http://members.rennlist.com/pirtle/svc.html (mostly S4, but the AC/vacuum stuff is good if you want to get AC working on any 928)
http://members.rennlist.com/sharkski..._Main_Home.htm
http://www.nichols.nu/tips.htm

plus of course the factory workshop manuals:

Yea Dwayne lives around the corner. whats the chances?

Thanks for all the good ideas! and by the way with almost 10,000 posts I know how good the "SEARCH" is and how good its not.

As far as the stick shift, you NEED to go drive a PDK! I had 3 sticks in the TT and the 2 GT3s, but this currernt car is flipping AMAZING!!!! Like I said before, I had a GT3 RS BOUGHT, and after I drove the PDK I HAD to buy it, the PDK may be Porsche's GREAT invention. And I dont like automatics!

Agree on the PDK as well as Audi's DSG. Drove an A3 as a loaner a while back which had it, amazing transmission. Still dont understand why they dont but it in the A4/A6 models though..

OG, welcome brother. I recall your posts from the 993 forum way back, glad to see you in the 928 section! Let me know if I can help you with any parts--your son is a lucky dude and is getting a sweet car (if you can afford/handle the maintenance, I personally think a 16V is a great first car).

Get some wrenching time in together with your son, my dad and I have shared a love of cars that means the world to me. Contrary to what many claim, the 928 can be a very fun and rewarding car to work on. Enjoy...
