Thanks for all the good ideas! and by the way with almost 10,000 posts I know how good the "SEARCH" is and how good its not.

As far as the stick shift, you NEED to go drive a PDK! I had 3 sticks in the TT and the 2 GT3s, but this currernt car is flipping AMAZING!!!! Like I said before, I had a GT3 RS BOUGHT, and after I drove the PDK I HAD to buy it, the PDK may be Porsche's GREAT invention. And I dont like automatics!
Except Porsche didn't invent it... however, to have a PDK in a 928, now that would be something! It's too bad a 911 transmission would be one of the most difficult to adapt to a 928.

Oh yeah:

See what happens when you take a hit off a crack pipe. Just so you stay sane, don't drive a stroker or supercharged model. It will kill you.

Did the Weissach editions come with the upgraded steel ball joint carriers? Since the change started mid-83, probably not but who knows with these special editions.

OldGuy, do a search for 'aluminum ball joints' and you'll see the issue. Its an easy check to see if yours were upgraded, and if not they should be.

My 82 has aluminum but they are tight. Is it ok to run them as long as I check them often?

No. They fail. Seriously. There isn't a recall (shoulda been) but there is discontinuance of the part and a technical service bulletin explaining the change dating back to that timeframe.

OldGuy slumming it in a front engine Porsche? I don't want to live in this world anymore... What's next, a 924?

He moved up.

924 would be back.

Now if Lart goes 928, then worry.
Different logic flow, though.

I got a well-known secret for ya. If you simply weld a straight pipe with no mufflers on the end of the Y-cat (NOT removing the cat - stays legal) then you will have the real fun of the 2V cars - a real raspy, angry sound. Not too loud at cruise or idle - because the cat is still there. But when you get on it!

Its SO funny to see the silver BMW 335i in the first stall, the white 911 in the second stall and I walk by both to the third stall to get to the gold 928. In the drive way is the BLACK BMW X5 4.8is which is a niche vehicle in its own right.
As far as the PDK goes Porsche DID invent it. They started on it in 1980. FINALLY then got it in the 1983 917 and won the LeMans. Its taken them this long to get it into the passenger car. Its quite the engineering piece of equipment!!

You know whats amazing? the 911 is an oxymoron of sportscars. Porsche has spent almost 50 years overcoming the inherent flaws in the rear engine car. And they have succeeded. Its one of the best handling cars in the world. The 2008 GT3 was labeled the best handling car in the world. BUT imagine if Porsche had spent that time and energy on a car that WASNT FLAWED to begin with? like maybe the 928 or Cayman?

OldGuy: Your 997 is CarrAra White - named after the Italian Carrara marble. It has nothing to do with "Carrera". Your signature is incorrect.

You obviously have not shopped for 134a this year! A small can last year cost $6-$8 ea. I saw them for $17 at the autoparts store last week! EEK! I think R12, might actually be cheaper now.
