30lb R134a is running around $170 at this time. I'm not able to find an R12 30lb tank for less than ~$475, so it's about 3x the price. R134a definitely has gone up in price in the last 6 or so months, but it usually does that in Spring/Summer, just like gasoline.

Nicole, given I have had 911s and some of the best for 10 years and lusted after them for 50 years,
the sig was a simple misspelling. Its correct in the certificate of authenticity on my wall as well as the sticker on my garage wall. Its also correct in my Porsche Excellence Was Expected encyclopedia set
I am surprised someone of your stature would assume I didnt know. You would think you could find something else to criticize me on.

A suggestion I don't think I've seen yet -

Make sure there is no slack in the accelerator cable. Adjust the bowden cable so that it begins to raise the idle, then back it off 1/2 turn.

Over time that cable stretches considerably, robbing the car of significant power at full throttle. Many new owners of older 928s are unaware of this and drive the car for years thinking the car does not have the power they were expecting.

Time to add the 928 to your signature lines!

I'll criticize you for driving a white car before Memorial Day.

THanks Randy! So far these are my maintenance issues to do:
Oil and filter
AC recharge
Polish the paint (its already in good shape)
Door motors and regulator
Take a look at 2nd gear but I am hesitant to take the tranny out. Its not a big problem and every other gear is fine 2nd is just a touch notchy

Jeff, I have been driving my X5 4.8is (Sapphire black), its not Memorial day yet. what color shoes?

Then why don't you fix it in your signature?

Nicole I am lazy. when I go in to put in the 928 I will fix it and I will dedicate it to you!

Thanks Barry! The switches work fine. Where do I get a list of ground point positions. As an engineer I know that if ground spots get weak, then they start to float and change the zero point for the voltage floor
and that will screw up a LOT of things, especially in a fighter.

If the windows don't respond to the switches... how can you tell? My driver's switch has to be pushed in just the right spot and hard... for it to work. I have new switches ready to install so I can start fresh all around.

Intersting you mention a fighter... and some interesting 928 trivia: It is told that the CE (fuse/relay) panel is closely modeled after the one used in the Messerschmitt BF-109 fighter from WWII... so it was either very advanced in the '40s or very dated in the '80s.

I am not sure if the ground points stayed the same for each model year, but you may find them in AO's signature about wiring manuals for year... or search for 'ground points' & cross your fingers!

Thanks Barry,
the reason the switches work is because the passenger window went all the way down.
The drivers went down half way then one side started to continue and the middles stopped;
so I stopped with that side. So that tells me the switches work.

... and after the driver-side window jammed, neither window works?

I'm with White Lightnin' - check and clean or replace the fuses & relays.

The problem that I encountered with the driver-side window was a broken wire in the door harness, right where it flexes as the door opens and closes.

Actually there were several broken wires, but that doesn't sound like your issue.

Second gear is notchy? Replace the gear oil with premium synthetic and see what happens.

thanks Maeficio. I was thinking of that, I wondered how long since the owner changed the gear box oil.

I like to dope my gear oils with Tufoil. It's always like taking 500 pounds out of the trunk, and makes shifting silky smooth. The only gear oil I've used that is like this without Tufoil is Amsoil.
